Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
2theadvocate.com | Featured Saints Stories | Shoring up the middle — Baton Rouge, LA
“I feel it’s a very good fit,” Vilma said during a recent break from the team’s offseason workouts. “It’s not like I’m a rookie learning a new defense. I’ve played this scheme before and I’m excited to get back to it.” Vilma, who said he expects to be “the quarterback of the defense,” turns 26 on April 16. He was the 12th overall pick in the 2004 draft. |

Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
The Saints DL needs to keep the OL of the opposing team off Vilma. If they do, he will be a monster in the middle. I hope Marvin Mitchell will be watching and learning!

Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
See my reply about Balmer in another thread if I hear another comparison of the Dome Patrol again. Joking or not.

I like Balmer, I think he'll be a great pro.

You are definitely in the minority in this place. |
Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
yeah, then again the people who compare him to Jon Sullivan really have no idea what they're talking about anyway, LOL.

Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
I too saw Kentwan Balmer in action, and although he flashes the ability to be special, he doesn't have the motor that a DT needs. He's a lazy bum who was criticized for being lazy in his pro day. In his freakin pro day, are you kidding me?!?!? The entire concept of a pro day is to make these players look better and showcase their talents, and he gets called lazy at his? There's something wrong with his work ethic. Not to mention his 40 time got worse and he added more weight since the combine.

Seriously though I've seen Balmer play and he would've been a perfect fit in the Lunch Bunch days when we wanted our DTs to be fat and lazy. It's easy to tell if a defensive lineman is lazy or taking a play off because they stand straight up when the ball is snapped. Instead of exploding out their stance they will just stand up and lean on the O lineman in front of him. Kentwan Balmer is this year's finest example of the terrific athlete who could be a force if he weren't a lazy bum. |
Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
well I don't know about him being called "lazy" at his own pro day, any source for that claim? I do however know that atleast one scout in particular said that he believes Balmer will be a better pro than Sedrick Ellis.

Is that scout's name Venturi or Haslett? Again...no thanks on the Balmer prospect. |
Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
I'd rather Dre Moore over Balmer.. not many people mention him but he did extremely well at the combine and has tremendous upsize.

i looked all over for the link and i couldnt find it but i can claim to have seen the same thing and basically what the article said was that he ran the 40 then the scouts asked him to run again and he said no, claiming that he was injured and couldnt run anymore.. |
Re: Vilma, Saints seem like good fit
Here it is, I posted it in another thread, something entitled "Kentwan Balmer = Next Jonathan Sullivan" or something like that:
Kentwan Balmer, DT, North Carolina Balmer, an enormously talented prospect who was an underachiever in college, continues to annoy scouts with his apathetic attitude. His 40 time last week on a fast track was an improvement over his combine mark. Yet Balmer refused to run a second 40, claiming he hurt his hamstring, an ailment many questioned. He later proceeded to take part in position drills which left scouts scratching their heads. SI.com - NFL - Pauline: Pair of Trojans shine as pro-days end - Thursday April 3, 2008 11:19PM |
