Unless Ellis or Dorsey falls a dt will not be drafted untill round two.

Husker's right, there isn't a DT worth taking in the top ten after Dorsey and Ellis. As a matter of fact I don't know if there's another DT in this draft that I would take in the first round after those two.

Trevor Laws blows, no offense QBREES9. I wouldn't want any part of that Notre Dame team, especially an undersized, overachieving defensive tackle who, what do you know, is just like Brian Young.

trevor laws(6'304) is almost the exact same size as dorsey(6'1 297lbs), had a faster 40 and shuttle time, and performed at a similar level with out all the help dorsey had around him. i'm not going to say that laws is equal to dorsey at this time, but laws in the second round is a MUCH better value than trading multiple picks and/or players for dorsey.

dorsey: 5.12 40yrd dash
Year GP TKL TFL SACK
2004 11 18 2.0 0.0
2005 13 28 4.0 3.0
2006 13 64 8.5 3.0
2007 14 69 12.5 7.0
Totals 51 179 27.0 13.0

laws: 5.06 40yrd dash
Year GP TKL TFL SACK
2004 12 17 2.0 1.0
2005 12 33 3.0 1.5
2006 13 62 9.5 3.5
2007 12 112 8.0 4.0
Totals 49 224 22.5 10.0

We don't need value, we need an impact player. Our entire 2007 draft was value. How many of them even played a down, or even dressed? Our best rookie was a FA.

Most of the draft in 2007 was offense right. In 2006 we drafted offense and got a boat load of starters. So is it really surprising that the next group drafted would have a harder time getting playing time? NO. What we did was get some good depth and players to develop so when the contracts for Stinch and a couple of others run out in 2009 we have players ready to step in. Granted we did not see them play much in 2007 but we will see them on the field in 2008. The team really has no choice but to play them and see what they have to pick from in 2009. Next year is going to be very interesting on how the OL is shaped for years to come.
Give the draft class of 2007 till the end of the year, then pass judgment.

That is my point as well- we drafted for depth, not production. The unfortunate end result last year was that we didn't draft the type of player who could get us over the hump, ie Dorsey.
The original argument in the thread was draft Laws over Dorsey, for the sake of taking value.

I like Pat Sims in the second round. Nice compliment to Young, and would be a nice alternate to Thomas.
