PACMAN PAID OFF STRIP CLUB SHOOTER
Posted by Mike Florio on April 21, 2008, 10:59 p.m.
The Associated Press reports that Titans cornerback Pacman Jones paid off the man who was arrested last week for pulling the tigger at the Las Vegas strip club where Tommy Urbanski was shot and paralyzed in 2007.

“He paid $15,000 to his friends, who advised him that if he didn’t pay the money then this guy would come after him,” said Jones’ lawyer, Robert Langford.

Also, Jones went to Seattle on Friday and picked Arvin Kenti Edwards out of a lineup. (It’s unknown whether Kramer was one of the extras. Or a Twix bar.)

We’re aware of no crime in paying money to someone under an illegal threat of extortion. Still, the notion that Jones was scraping together cash to keep the shooter from implicating Jones (or worse) is unsavory, and could prompt Commissioner Roger Goodell to decide not to reinstate Jones.

Pacman’s recent pleas of no contest to misdemeanor charges in Las Vegas and felony charges in Georgia could give Goodell all the ammo he needs to suspend Jones for another year, if Goodell so chooses. More importantly, it’s possible that Jones previously failed to tell Goodell about the cash paid to the shooter — and/or that Jones denied to Goodell knowing who the shooter was.

If Goodell can prove that Pacman lied to the Commish about such an important issue, Goodell might have found the key to never letting Pacman back into the league.

And since all discipline imposed under the Personal Conduct Policy is appealable to the Commissioner only, it’s not as if Jones would have any meaningful recourse.
