The new orleans saints select....

what would u do with the 1st round pick....specifically....

Re: The new orleans saints select....

my first pick would be ellis
if he is not there rivers
if he is gone mckelvin
if he is gone BBA no matter what position that may be

i'm guessing that 1 of those 3 will be there at 10, most likely rivers or mckelvin will be the pick

Re: The new orleans saints select....

Personally, I would try to make a trade with Philly at #19 for #10 and Lito. Then use #19 for the BPA (hopefully a LB, Mayo or Connor), then use #40 for a DT (whichever the Saints have rated higher and is still available...Sims, Harrison, Moore, or Laws).

With this scenario the Saints get a pro bowl CB, a LB, and a DT. However, there is a big IF, if Philly is willing to deal!

Yall know where I stand.
Trade back to 19 = litto.
Package litto to another club for picks and/or a player
or send litto to NYG for Shockey.
Then pick at 19.
If not
Trade back to 31 = shockey
then
31 = BPA

Re: The new orleans saints select....

We're beginning to realize that getting a shot at Dorsey will cost too much.

Ellis however should be there at 5-6-7. And he's the only guy I see worth trading up for.

Re: The new orleans saints select....

Moving up will be to high ($$$) and Dorsey and/or Ellis will be gone by that time so it’s best we do stand pat at 10 and take Rivers and if Rivers is gone the highest rated CB.

As for the 2nd round pick I’d trade for either Shockey or Lito and with a player if need be. What the hell I throw in Jason David, Jason Craft, Bullocks and whatever linebacker they want except for Fujita and Vilma.

This makes too much since but it will never happen. Besides, it may put us in cap hell over the long run. Still, what draft do you ever remember getting two instant probowlers that are ready to play now? Err... Never. That is correct.

At 31 and 40, I'd take the best defensive player on the board.

Re: The new orleans saints select....

too many trades...i think it sounds good but its not likely that we make one trade in the first round....especially moving down....i see us being aggressive and moving up but moving down will drop the talent level too much us making that move

Re: The new orleans saints select....

The talent pool in round one this year is vastly over rated. Can you read the signs? No diving in the pool. U will hit bottom.

while i think that most of the players in the 1st round are C+ to B grade players.....i think that the corner position has the highest unseen potential....i believe that the corners in the first round wouldnt sway to low from the B grade....it may be worth the risk

Re: The new orleans saints select....

We need another CB like I need another whole in my head.
Its not going to matter who we have at CB if we can't put pressure on the QB. Go ahead draft a CB in this round and we will be watching other teams in the playoffs and not the Saints - again.

You want a CB - we'll talk about it next offseason.

I am glad to see the numbers are starting to turn though from the begining of the offseason to now and the closer we get to the draft. Everyone preaching CB... I see my message is getting through, lol.

We will be talking about it next offseason because it is the biggest glaring weakness is the saints defense......while u preach blitz and rush...we are still not going to....we will not blitz and that takes away from the presence that dorsey or ellis will bring....since we dont blitz it will put too much pressure on our CBs and without a great compliment to Mike we will struggle again!!!

Thats when you fire the coaches for being frauds... (NFL COACHES).

I take it you haven't read anything I have been preaching nor the articles that have been showing up recenly. It doesn't matter who you have at CB, any WR will get open against and CB in the NFL if you give him enough time. So its a mute point who you have at CB.

GREAT EXAMPLE - JASON DAVID, has a SB ring for playing CB. Now how do you suppose we got a SB CB and he played so poorly for us? PASS RUSH! Colts had one and we don't. So since we have this guy and he's proved he can play in the big dance lets get him what he had in INDY. We got Gay this offseason (no pun intended).

PRESSURE. Our DT are old and not as fast, can't get upfield quick enough, not as explosive. We need to upgrade that position and it will make the LARGEST IMPACT THIS OFFSEASON landing Dorsey or Ellis.

PRESSURE PRESSURE PRESSURE.

You want to compliment MM get him a pass rush, you'll see really how great of a corner he can be. "Hey MM, now look you'll only have 3 seconds or less to cover your WR so anticipate that so you know when to break on the ball better and make more INT's.

Re: The new orleans saints select....

It is simple take the BPA according to your board and hope it fills an area on need. depth is the key. Once you have it then you can wheel deal.

Re: The new orleans saints select....

I will be perfectly happy getting McKelvin at #10. And trade 2nd pick for Shockey or Sheppard though both are going to cost and Im not a big Shockey fan, attitude-wise. He requires to much attention and doesnt deserve that much.

Re: The new orleans saints select....

I think with all the off season shuffle in D we've made, the team is improved substantially on the Defense.

I still think we could pick up a strong RB in the 1st round and get some O line help as insurance in the later rounds and I feel really, really good about our prospects boys.

But just like Christmas, I'll be happy with whatever we get.

I wish camp would start May 1!!!

Euphoria you're right you are right.

Re: The new orleans saints select....

Ellis doesn't even impress me as a top 10 pick; Lito's injuries dampen my enthusiasm for that trade...

I've warmed up to the idea of moving up to 4 or 5, with the Chiefs most likely, to getting Dorsey...

The deal with Shockey (Turley's Heir Apparent) should involve no more than a 3 this year and a 6 progressive to a 4 next year...

We've not had continuity at the Safety position and I feel Randall Gay may be moved to Safety before the end of Training Camp...

RB should be a bigger concern than it is; Deuce will not be the runner he's been and it's time we go through the steps and get through Denial and move towards the next guy...
