Re: Mendenhall

We already have the RB answer ...... Pierre Thomas !

Mendenhall was PT's backup for 2 yrs at Illinois. He played sparingly b/c he couldn't beat out PT for more playing time. In other words, Mendenhall wasn't the best RB at ILL when he was sharing the backfield with Pierre Thomas.

If our coaches would use Reggie like they did in his rookie year (complimentary player) , PT might get a chance to prove his worth. As confirmed last year when Duece went down, Reggie is not a 15+ carry per game RB. The SAINTS are better off when he carries the rock 8-10 times and catches 5-10 passes per game coming out the backfield or from the slot recvr position.

The fans know this but Payton is dead set on using Reggie as the #1 featured running back. With Reggie as the main RB, the SAINTS were to predictable and defenses capitolized on this.

In his 2 yr NFL career, Reggie has 312 carries for a 3.7 yd avg. He only has 2 carries over 20 yds. - not very promising as a running back. His career long run is 22 yds .

Time for the head coach and O-coordinator to use the most effective tools we have. In 3 career games, Pierre Thomas has 52 carries for a 4.8 yds per carry avg. His career long is a 24 yd TD carry.

No Mendenhall is an incredible back. But so is PT. I don't think we needed him but he will no doubt be the next great thing. I really believe he will be great. I think no doubt in 5 years from now his stats will outshine McFadden. But I have thought Pierre was special since his 1st game.

what... you cant be serious..

#1 mendenhall was PTs backup for 2 years b/c he was a true freshman and then a sophomore while Thomas was a Jr. and Sr. respectively...

#2 its not like Mendenhall didnt get playing time as a sophomore.. he had 78 carries with an 8.2 ypc average while as a SR, Thomas had 131 carries with a 5.2 ypc avg.. Thomas had a little over 50 more carries then Mendenhall as a 3 year starting SR while mendenhall was a sophomore still learning..

#3 Mendenhall was the best RB at ILL when thomas was there... thomas just had more experience... plain n simple...
