a look back at the meachem pick.

after seeing what all the teams thought of the WRs in this years draft, last years pick makes a bit more sense. no one could predict his knee injuries, but had we not picked meachem last year, we wouldve really had to look at drafting a WR this year. it seems, none of the WRs this year were looked at as a big time playmaker worthy of an early pick. maybe its just me, but the meachem pick is looking a lot better as of today.

The problem I still have with the pick is that the Saints already knew about his knee and drafted him anyway.

I guess they were willing to wait.

So your going to pay a guy bonus money for sitting that isn't a franchise quarterback? It doesn't make any sense.

I disagree with the Meachem pick based on what I've seen, or rather what no one has seen thus far...

Also, with the moving around last year in R2, Saints could have moved up in R1 and grabbed Dwayne Bowe or CB Aaron Ross or MLB Jon Beason, all positions of need last year...

Falling back to draft a WR...James Jones fell to R3 and Indy picked Gonzales a few picks later, not to mention that, though a little reach, Chicago grabbed TE Olsen, Miami...

Meachem owes Saints and its fans a refund for last year; you're a R1 pick, you'd better play right away...

So far, the Meacham pick is laying lame (literally) and is a no-show. But. IMO the pick is not a total bust yet.

And if there's one thing that a long-suffering Saint fan can recognize, it's a total 1st round bust, Grade-F (read Shawn Knight and Jonathan Sullivan for the Grade-F busts; there are many, many Grade D busts).

So, as far as I'm concerned, the jury is still out. Let's wait and see what this kid can do this year. If he's seen eating at the press buffet during halftime or if he's traded to Denver for their 1st round bust half-way thru the season, then we're done here.

Funny how all this Shockey stuff would be a moot point had the Saints drafted Olsen instead of Meachem. I think the Saints got caught with their pants down a bit when Bowe was picked by KC.
