Giants | Reese says Shockey is the team's starter
Sun, 27 Apr 2008 01:52:25 -0700 The Associated Press reports New York Giants general manager Jerry Reese was immediately hit with questions about TE Jeremy Shockey during a post draft press conference. "Jeremy Shockey is our starting tight end, guys. I'm going to leave it at that," Reese said. Shockey had been the center of trade speculation for weeks leading up to the NFL Draft, but no deals surrounding him materialized during the first day. |
Re: giants, shockey is the team's starter
I am speculating that J. Reese is in a "no-lose" situation if he holds out for more than Shockey is worth. Shockey has strong support in NY, and a lot of people will release their collective breathes if the draft ends and Shockey is still a Giant.
With that being said, Reese probably feels that unless he gets an offer that is too good to refuse, his best move would be to let Shockey return to NY and either A) Have a great year, in which Reese comes out looking pretty good, or B) Shockey talks himself out of a job and a team, so Reese let's him go later when more people are ready for him to exit. The only way he can screw this up, IMHO, is to take an offer that is considered marginal for Shockey's raw talent, and for him to have an all-pro year somewhere else. |
Re: giants, shockey is the team's starter
The problem is that Jerry Reese doesn't make out the Giants line-up. Coach Tom Coughlin does.
