7th rounder was traded for pressley

espns draft cast doesnt have our 7th rounder listed anymore, so im guessing thats what we gave up for pressley.

Think you were worrying a bit over nothing.

I don't understand this pick. Why? Because he's too small to play the nose.

We already have 2 (or 3) undertackles. Ellis is starter. Young is the backup. And if Orien Harris hasn't bulked up, he'll be an undertackle too. And now, we gave up a 7th, to move up a couple spots, to get - yet another undertackle.

So, Hollis Thomas is expected to play the nose all the time, while we rotate 4 undertackles?

I just don't get this pick. A nose tackle, like the one Hagan pointed out earlier, Ahtyba Rubin, would've made much more sense to me. In addition, that wouldn't have cost us a 7th round pick for any kind of trade.

I just don't understand this.

Nola.com is confirming that it was this years 7th rounder given up in the trade.

I personally like this pick a lot. You look at the two defensive tackles that we took in the draft and there's one thing that sticks out about them that we didn't have before: athleticism. They're not jumbo-sized defensive linemen like Hollis Thomas, but they are both disruptive guys who are more athletic than the guys we currently have on the roster. I personally love getting younger and faster at the position.

Re: 7th rounder was traded for pressley

I see your point Deuce, and I'm not complaining that we took a tackle. But what are the odds that Ellis and Pressley will be on the field at the same time? They're the same guy.

We've only got what, two NT's on this team? One, the starter, is Hollis Thomas. He's great - but getting old. His backup is who, Antwan Lake? Or is it Kendrick Clancy? I always get them mixed up. Anyway, with this pick, we now have another undertackle, making three or four undertackles on this team, to pair up along with either Thomas or Lake. THAT's the part I don't understand. Thomas needs a preplacement - and it's not Pressley. He's too small.

Ellis already has a backup in Bryan Young. But Hollis Thomas just has Antwan Lake (or Clancy, can't remember). So, wouldn't it have made more sense to get a big NT to spell or replace Hollis Thomas? Lake can clog up the middle, but he's doesn't push the middle like Thomas does. Thomas is in his 30's. 35 now, is he? Something like that?

The NT we were discussing earlier would've made a lot more sense to me. And we wouldn't have had to trade up to get him.

Ellis can play both, he played the nose at USC

That's something we were discussing on the chat board. If Ellis can play nose, then this pick makes sense. But if they plan to keep him at undertackle, then it doesn't make any sense worth a damn.

The Lord has spoken.... Ellis plays the nose.

I really think Ellis will play both positions and rarely be off the field.

lol - the Lord believes this is the only way this pick could've had any value.

The Lord has spoken.

In a 4-3, whose your Nose Tackle?

The idea with the 4-3 is that you have more active Tackles (i.e. Laroi Glover, John Randle)...

They got defense, and that is what everyone wanted.

Technically, whichever tackle plays over the center. But in LoE's mind whichever tackle plays over the "A" gap on the weak side is also a NT (though many argue that they can be called "nose" only when that tackle is directly over center).

Regardless, we always put our big beefy tackle over center or over the "A" gap weak side. Our undertackle goes on the strong side. Pull up one of the games and see where Hollis Thomas lines up, and where Bryan Young lines up, and you'll see what I mean.

Whether it's 4-3 or 3-4 has nothing to do with it. That's been beaten to death in another thread.
