He has a very good shot at it. Other than Mayo, I can't think of another defensive player picked in the top 20 that is going to be surrounded by the talent like we have on the d-line.

When the season starts, most teams are going to focus mostly on stopping Smith and Grant. Which means Ellis will be facing a single interior lineman most of the time in the first three games or so. If he puts up big numbers in those games, then he could have a chance.

todd mcshay predicted jerod mayo to be the defensive rookie of the year....it was mark schlereth who predicted ellis to be.....i stayed up all night to watch it after i read this post...and mcshay never said squat about how good we did

...well, now I feel so much better, now that McShay has predicted Ellis to be the 2008 Rookie of the Year!! What a relief is to have the personal guarantee of no other than Mr. McShay that this young man is going to have a stellar performance in 2008. Now I know I can watch Saints games with confidence.
