Carl Nicks
The best tackle at the Senior Bowl. "If he were Williams personality-wise or Long, he might be the best of them all other than Long," another scout said."
This is the link: Big Blue Interactive | What scouts actually believe (about the draft) This was the complete scouts' takes on Nicks (where I pulled above), most of which has been posted before on this forum: 8. CARL NICKS, Nebraska (6-5, 341, 5.22, 2-5) - Described by Polian as "more of a road-grader type," Nicks has been to three schools and started at LT for one season only at Nebraska. "Whatever you can get, that's what he's got," one scout said. "He's lazy. Malcontent. Resistant to authority. Criminality. Divorced with kids. He transferred. Anything you would not want a guy to have, he has it all. Talented, but a mess." The best tackle at the Senior Bowl. "If he were Williams personality-wise or Long, he might be the best of them all other than Long," another scout said. Scored 18 on the Wonderlic. "He is talented, dude, but we're not going to touch him," a third scout said. "He's too smart for his own britches. He's not a professional. He'll always be on the edge." |

Re: Carl Nicks
we need someone to set some fire on our guys...sounds like what we need to put US over the edge.
super bowl here we come :D |
Re: Carl Nicks
Wait, am I missing something? That blurb just listed a whole bunch of bad things including that Nicks is lazy, resistant to authority, a malcontent, and not a professional. Why is everybody all over this guy's sack?

Re: Carl Nicks
tbh? he sounds like a bad ass. if he works out, ****ing sweet. if not, he was like a 5th round pick lol.
|
Re: Carl Nicks
Badass? Maybe. A better term of a badass in the NFL is somebody who takes care of their **** and gets on the field and then kills people.

during the draft i remember hearing a quote b/t him and a coach of ours and nicks (when asked about his issues said) "i'm definitely gonna prove some ppl wrong, it won't be a problem" so if it does work out it does...and if not...i don't feel they thought it was much of a risk. and it's not. so here's to him being a bad ass :D |
Re: Carl Nicks
A badass would be a Kyle Turley, Vaughn Johnson, or, dare I say, Jeremy Shockey; an ass would be someone who doesn't know how to channel his "badassness" on the field and not abusing women, risking injurying families while DUI, or making it rain also sorts of ways...
This guy needs to get his head out of his ass, realize he's blessed physically with a chance to get a real head start financially at a young age, and, well, get his head out of his ass... |
Re: Carl Nicks
Nicks side of the story of why he was arrested;
Carl Nicks update: Crossing his fingers in the second round. Carl Nicks has been like a 340-pound yo-yo in the run-up to the draft. Back in January, the Nebraska offensive tackle’s stock began to rise with a strong Senior Bowl, then bounced even higher in February with a solid performance in the scouting combine. The next month, however, he was arrested at a party in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Nicks’ stock started going in the opposite direction. At one point, it looked like Nicks could be taken as high as the end of the first round. Now he believes that he could go anywhere from the middle of the second round to the fourth round. I just spoke to Nicks, who is home in Salinas, about his roller-coaster offseason. As far as his March arrest, Nicks said it happened like this: He flew to Nebraska a week before the team’s pro day and that Friday night attended a party at a friend’s house. He knew he would be drinking at the party and asked his friend if he could stay the night. The party grew so raucous that the police were called. When they arrived, Nicks was downstairs in the theater room and he and several other partygoers – including four football players -- were ticketed for being in a disorderly house. The police asked everyone who wasn’t a resident to disperse, but Nicks couldn’t drive. He eventually called a cab but the police arrested him for failing to disperse a disorderly house. He was taken to jail. He said the episode never grew violent or contentious. In fact, Nicks eventually got the charges dismissed and that his agent sent packets to all 32 teams documenting what occurred. “Initially it was frustrating because my stock has dropped because of it,” Nicks said. “But I can’t do anything about that now.” The episode, however, snowballed when new Cornhuskers coach Bo Pelini barred Nicks from the team’s pro day. Nicks said that other Nebraska football players who were at the same party were able to take part because they were only ticketed whereas Nicks was arrested. He said he never got a chance to argue his case in front of Pelini. “I don’t hate him for that,” Nicks said. “He’s the new coach at a big program. He has to set a standard.” What also hurt is that Nicks never got to participate in any pro day. He said he wanted to take part in San Jose State’s event but that Salinas, where he played high school football, was more than 45 miles away. He couldn’t take part in the 49ers’ local pro day because Salinas is more than 50 miles from Santa Clara. The only teams he has visited are Buffalo and Cincinnati. It should be noted that Buffalo will pick ahead of the 49ers in the third round thanks to the tampering case which saddled San Francisco with the 75th overall pick instead of their original 70th. -- Matt Barrows http://www.sacbee.com/static/weblogs...es/012054.html |

Criminality. Divorced with kids. He transferred. Anything you would not want a guy to have, he has it all. Which I have problems understanding the word "Criminality". punk? To someone who doesn't know how to channel his "badassness" on the field and not abusing women, risking injuring families while DUI, or making it rain also sorts of ways... Now the rest of the story He flew to Nebraska a week before the team’s pro day and that Friday night attended a party at a friend’s house. He knew he would be drinking at the party and asked his friend if he could stay the night. The party grew so raucous that the police were called. Re: Carl Nicks
If he is a scum bag he will be cut after camp.
If he is a victim of curcimstance then he will remain with the team. I'm with Kevin, let's just wait and see. |
Re: Carl Nicks
I don't think anyone is perfect so I think he is like everyone else.

Re: Carl Nicks
i like his side of the story...he is of age to drink so nothing was wrong about that...he cant control what others do...according to his story he has done nothing wrong...i have heard nothing but great things from his ability....while i didnt watch him during the season ive been able to watch a lot of film on him because he could be the steal of the draft....he has first round talent but dropped solely because of his arrest....i like his power and his footwork even tho some dont...i dont like that he doesnt finish plays and he doesnt seem very mean which is a "must" at the professional level...he can be taught that and at the pro level i look for him to start in a few years...he has the talent and size to do it....in my opinion he would be the steal if we hadnt drafted talor mehlhaff

Re: Carl Nicks
He was recently banned from his school's pro day after being arrested at a party at his friend's house. He was cited for being an inmate of a disorderly house and failing to disperse. Charges were later dismissed.
Saints take OT Carl Nicks in Round 5 - New Orleans Saints Beat - Times-Picayune NFL - NOLA.com So I guess that put and end to it. He is not a liar. Also were did this divorce stuff come from? Every were I read it says married with a three year old. As for his level of play remember this: 2003 enrolled at New Mexico State, appeared in 5 games as a reserve defensive tackle. 2004 spring camp about to make the move to offensive guard, but academic problems forced him to transfer to Hartnell Junior College the following season. 2005 California Community College Football Coaches Association first-team All-American honors and Region II first-team All-California 2006, enrolled at Nebraska where he served as a valuable "sixth man" on the offensive line 2007 first full year as a starter To me that says he has been getting by on talent more than coaching. If you look at it in a different light he flunked out of school, then had a kid and has been putting his life back together ever sense. He seems to be moving in the right direction. sure he hit a pot hole or two but who has not? Lets see what some coaching does for this kid. |
