NFC team reports: focus on safeties

NFC team reports: focus on safeties

15. New Orleans Saints
This unit deserves some blame for all the deep touchdown passes last year. Josh Bullocks, Roman Harper and Kevin Kaesviharn were inconsistent. The hard-hitting Harper has the biggest upside.

Every college game you watch this year pay close attention to FS and WLB. Start your scouting now. If the safeties do not improve their play this year look for it to become one of the main targets in round 1 and FA in 2009, along with WLB. Ranked 15 out 16 is about as bad as it gets gang.

how can they blame kaesviharn for anything? what little time he played, he did very well.

I totally agree. I personally thought that KK played well when he got the opportunity to start last year. He should have been starting the entire year in my opinion.

I also agree in the assessment that Roman Harper was inconsistent. I believe that Roman needs one more year to be fairly evaluated, because he tore his ACL his rookie year and generally it takes some time to recover from such a serious injury. I felt that Harper was more effective towards the end of the year. This will be his make or break year.

As for Bullocks I disagree with this team report. Bullocks was consistent... consistently bad. I hate to beat a dead horse, but Bullock starting (I feel he shouldn't even be occupying a roster spot) is hard to watch, as I have said many times before. I really am more of an observer on this forum and choose to only post when I feel strongly enough about saying something, and nothing inspires me to post than my extreme hatred of all things Josh Bullocks related. I refuse to back down on what I say about him. There is absolutely nothing that I have seen to this point that he has brought to the Saints organization.

Josh Bullocks = Tebucky Jones

Cajun, well put. You're not alone in your views, as I'm in total agreement. Further, LoE is also in agreement that KK would've (should've) been the starter. LoE was crying for a free safety all throughout the draft.

You were not alone. But after the Ellis trade I really gave up hope. At the beginning of the fifth round that was scratched of my list. LOL all gone even the CB/S types.

Lets be a little optimistic here. we have to. They are all we have. Harper has the most upside of the group. Bullocks we loved in the begining. i am hoping the improved front 7 will help both out. The saint safeties IMO seemed to think run first and for most. Then reacting to the passing game. Thus one step behind all season long. So I am hoping.

i really believe that a lot of the safeties problems had to do with the CBs problems lol...since our corners were unable to do their jobs it pushed a lot of un-needed pressure and responsibility on the safeties...if jason david thinks he can cheat on the run because of his tampa 2 past then he let the receiver go by and put that on a safety who isnt very fast....i like our defensive secondary now...its still not pretty but we got some pieces....lets play with them a little and see if we can put together that super bowl puzzle weve been hoping on

Well, I pose this question: will there be an FS cap casaulties in June? This is something to consider, even if KK gets the starting nod.

Here's an article suggesting a number of Safeties and a number of Corners will be cap casualties this year. Here are the Safeties, I'll leave the reader to examine the long list of Corners:

Adam Archuleta (Bears)
Greg Wesley (Chiefs)
Stuart Schweigert (Raiders)
Brian Russell (Seahawks)

Would any of these be an upgrade (and please don't start with "my paper boy would be an upgrade over Bullocks" - he wasn't that bad).

People are already bias towards him... that's all you're going to get. He sucks and always will suck.

Get rid of him... let's give up on our 24 year old starting FS because there's no room for improvement. My grandma riding in her wheel chair could do a better job than Bullocks.

I'd bring in any one of those 4 guys to compete with Bullocks, Harper, and KK for playing time. Competition is healthy. Put whoever on the field that deserves to be there.
