How do you spell BUSTED DRAFT

We Say

.
Dave Myers, Tribune sportswriter and copy editor, on Erasmus James

I think we can officially call the Minnesota Vikings’ 2005 NFL Draft a colossal bust. On Friday the Vikings released often injured former first-round pick Erasmus James.
Since the Vikings signing Pro Bowl defensive end Jared Allen during the offseason James’ presence won’t be missed on the field (he was hardly ever there to begin with).

However, James’ departure shines a light on one of the most disappointing draft classes in recent memory.

James was far from the only one not living up to his end of the deal. In 2005 Minnesota drafted WR Troy Williamson (first round), James (first round), G Marcus Johnson (second round), CB Dusting Fox (third round), RB Ciatrick Fason (fourth round), DT C.J. Mosely (sixth round) and CB Adrian Ward (seventh round). Out of all of the above mentioned players the only one still on the Minnesota roster is the underachieving Johnson.

When you consider what a poor job evaluating talent the Vikings did in 2005, it’s amazing the team is as competitive as it is.

Thank God for free agency.

Next time we use the term bust I think this is a great guideline to use.

James was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings 18th overall in the 2005 NFL Draft. During his rookie year he compiled 28 total tackles and 4 sacks. James missed most of the 2006 and 2007 seasons with injuries. He was waived by the Vikings on May 23, 2008 after a failed physical. He finished his injury plagued career with the Vikings with a dissapointing 37 tackles, and 5 sacks.

Another overpaid Flop,, what was his signing Bonus ??? I bet he set for life.
