Fri, 23 May 2008 14:38:36 -0700 The Atlanta Falcons waived FS D.J. Wolfe Friday, May 23.

D.J. Wolfe Oklahoma 5-111/8 207 4.61

Wolfe came in as a running back in a 2004 class that included 2007 NFL Rookie of the Year Adrian Peterson.

While Peterson ran to second place in the Heisman voting as a freshman, Wolfe got on the field as well, but recorded only 63 yards on 13 carries.

He was moved to cornerback in spring ball in 2005 and when he was inserted into the lineup that season, he starred while picking up 65 tackles (45 solo, 20 assists, 5 TFL), two sacks, two interceptions, two forced fumbles, and 10 pass breakups.

His playing time dipped drastically as a junior, as he started only 3 of 14 games. In that limited time, he had 19 tackles (10 solo, 9 assists, 1 TFL), two interceptions, and three pass breakups.

He was moved from corner to strong safety for his senior season and put in a fantastic year, with 87 tackles (52 solo, 35 assists, 5 TFL), four interceptions, four pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries. He was named second-team All-Big 12 by both the conference's coaches and by the Associated Press, and he received first-team accolades from the Kansas City Star and Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

Wolfe reportedly had some struggles with getting burned in coverage at Senior Bowl practices, which shows why he might be much better suited to stay at safety and why he currently grades out as a middle-round pick, at best.

The OU pro-day is a closed affair yet sources on hand at Norman have told us thus far the forty times have been a little slow. The workout is almost finished and we've been told the fastest time of the day belongs to DJ Wolfe, who ran 4.54 seconds.

Worth a look see. good PS candidate.
