3 yr deal for a camp body? does happen but that is rare. He has to be a bust for that or a surprise player is found in camp. There has to be something here worth the gamble. Even a 3yr deal for a PS player is weird. This kid has to have a shoot. There has to be something they see in him. there has to be.

Gil Brandt, of NFL.com, reports Montana CB Tuff Harris measured a height of 5-foot-11 5/8 and a weight of 196 pounds at his Pro Day. He ran the 40-yard dash in 4.50 seconds and 4.53 seconds, the short shuttle in 4.26 seconds and the three-cone drill in 6.96 seconds. He measured a 39 1/2-inch vertical jump and a 10-foot-2 broad jump.

His real name is Chester Harris. His nickname is Tuff due to some incidents in his child hood. Needless to say it has stuck. Tuff is a very talented football player. He is very fast even though his Pro day did not show his true speed. As a junior in high school he set Montana's All class 100M record. He was an all state WR and CB as well along with many other prep awards. Was signed to be a WR at U of M and was then converted to CB.

Harris, Swogger headed to NFL

They didn't hear their name called on ESPN, but former Montana Grizzly standouts Tuff Harris and Josh Swogger will get an opportunity to make an NFL team.

Harris, a standout return man and cornerback, signed a two-year free agent deal with the Miami Dolphins. Swogger wasn't among the 11 QBs selected in the NFL Draft this weekend, but he is still going to minicamp with the Kansas City Chiefs on May 11.

“I just got off the phone probably 15 minutes ago,” Swogger, who threw for 2,685 yards and 17 touchdowns for UM last fall, said at 6 p.m. Sunday. “I talked to the Jaguars and Vikings, too.
“Everybody wants to get drafted, but I think this is a good situation.”

Kansas City has questions at quarterback, with Trent Green demanding to be traded and rumors of a deal with Miami still swirling. Swogger, who transferred from Washington State last spring and helped UM to a 12-2 mark in 2006, had a total of 10 teams contact him in the weeks leading up to the draft.

“Four teams picked a quarterback,” Swogger said from a restaurant in Youngstown, Ohio, where he watched the draft. “We were just waiting for one of those other teams to contact me. And Kansas City was one of those teams.”

Miami, meanwhile, wasn't one of those teams in heavy contact with Harris, a Colstrip product who excelled as a punt return man with the Griz.

“It's kind of out of the blue,” said Harris. “They weren't on me as much as other teams. But regardless, it's the shot I was waiting for.”

The Dolphins didn't take any defensive backs among their 10 draft picks. Harris said Miami called him late in the seventh round, before Green Bay took its final draft pick (the Packers took Rutgers tight end Clark Harris). Afterward he spoke with Miami secondary coach Mel Phillips.

“They'd seen film, and they came and visited last spring,” Harris said. “They have good corners, but they're all young - nobody over two years, I guess. He (Phillips) said it's a good opportunity, a good chance to compete.”

The kicking game could be a factor for Harris. Miami's first-round pick, receiver and return man extraordinaire Ted Ginn, Jr., out of Ohio State, is nursing a sprained foot.

“He has an injury and probably won't be doing anything until two months from now,” said Harris, who averaged 14.5 yards per punt return with two touchdowns last fall. “They also mentioned (returning) which is good. I kind of like doing that.”

Swogger, represented by former Griz player Chris Murray and Imani Sports, said he has yet to sign a contract. Local agent Ken Staninger, who represents Harris, said his client got a two-year, non-guaranteed deal with an unspecified signing bonus.
