Pierre Thomas BAM!

He played hard, looked great. He was brutal, looked healthy to me.

4 and 0 BABY!

Yup! Looked Great. Looks like we have running back by commitee like Denver used to have.

3-0... is reprogramming this website going to your head?

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

Looks like the only "average" PT23 proved the doubters wrong again. 123 yards and two scores....ALL IN THE 2ND HALF! Unbelievable. We should cut him now and get P.J. Hill on the active roster! He didn't do enough to stay on this team. :rolls eyes:

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

PT was 14 carriers 126 yards 9.0 average. All in the second half.

Average.

.. he's no Matt Forte, that's for sure ...

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

This was very important to run the ball this way against Buffalo - Drew was getting creamed early from the sound of it. If we passed the ball too often, it could have been perilous in many ways.

Good job blockers, Bush, Hammy and PT!

I had a feeling that Mike Bell's performance would bring out the competitive juices in the rest of our RBs.

Great game PT!!!

I agree....sort of. I think you are half-right saying that the other RB's felt they needed to produce to get more touches with the way Bell had been playing. However, PT did everything he has ever done when he has been on the field. He produced. Over 120 yards rushing, two scores, and 9 YPC? This game was huge for him, and as long as he stays healthy, he should get the majority of the touches. He is pretty dangerous and has a great nose for the endzone.

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

I love the way the Saints stuck to the ground game, and completely wore out the Bills in the end. It was obvious Brees was not going to have a great day, so it was great to see the other areas pick it up.

arsaint 09-27-2009 07:52 PM

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

Bobby Hebert always like to say on WWL that "4 YPC is getting it done".

Saints today:

PT - 9.0 ypc
RB - 4.9 ypc
LH - 4.8 ypc

Brees usually has a subpar game or two each year. AWESOME that we got a win during today's "human" performance...

That is "getting it done" and then some.

This is an EXCELLENT POINT ... We are SO STACKED at RB ... That will be huge for us later in the season (and it is now), but especially then.

Great post arsaint.

I was amused at one of the pregame shows saying something to the effect of Bell being out and the Saints would have to go with Thomas.

It almost sounded like we were having to pick someone up off the street instead of the fact that he was our primary back last year.

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

I think Zach Strief came in for Bushrod and played extremely well especially on PT's first TD run.

MatthewT 09-27-2009 08:52 PM

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

Man, to me Zach Strief should be considered team MVP. He is playing blocking TE, filling in on the line, this dude is everywhere and playing great football. Well, the MVP talk is a little bit of a reach, but I think everyone can agree that his contributions are major factors to the Saints success in both the passing and running game. Lining him up at TE is just lethal for opposing defenses. All he does is open more running lanes and gives Brees even more protection. I love the way Sean Payton is using him!

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

Got to give Heath Evans credit too... he's an outstanding run blocker.

MatthewT 09-27-2009 09:14 PM

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

papz- true dat, Heath Evans has been a beast for the Saints. When Mike Karney was let go I did not believe Evans was an upgrade. I will eat some major crow with a smile on my face now!!!

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

Not only was PT23 running hard, he was playing hurt with a brace on his knee. He wasn't even full speed. If you'll notice, every one of his touches was on the left side of the center. I suppose that was becoz making cuts on the right side would have been more difficult. Every time the camera showed a close up of Pierre you could tell by his facial expressions that he was in pain. I just hope he didn't complicate or further his knee injury.

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

I think all four running backs that have played, for the Saints this season, are doing terrific. However, I think the main reason for the great running game, is because of the O-line. They are doing just as good at run blocking, as they are at pass blocking.

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

excuse me here, the saints have depth at RB! it has been how many years since we said that? I am loving it. Hammer away with one, bring in the next and let the first guy rest. this is toooooo sweet. MB or PT and to a degree LH. I am just giddy

Budsdrinker 09-28-2009 08:23 AM

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

PT was playing with the flu. Took IV's before warmups and throughout the first half. Just think what he will do when fully healthy.

foreverfan 09-28-2009 08:54 AM

Re: Pierre Thomas BAM!

Carl Nicks was playing on the same side as Strief and not Evans. In any case, they were opening up huge holes that even Bush could have ran through. I think the addition of Nicks to the OL has added the power running game and the finesse to pass block too.

It seems that anybody we put at runnning back could succeed.

I signed for the Jets board TheGangGreen.com - the most complete source of New York Jets information as SaintsFanMan. The board is a bit strong but the Jets fans don't seem to think they will beat the Saints in the dome.

I agree. BAM!
