Malcolm Jenkins

Malcolm Jenkins, has been coming up big. Can wait till he becomes a starter.

Re: Malcolm Jenkins

Without the turnovers, we could have easily been behind in the 4th quarter. This may have (with Payton) forced us out of the running game which would have led to a potential loss.

That play and the Will Smith/Hancock Int was HUGE!!!

I truly believe if jenkins wouldn't have been a holdout he would be starting right now. He got his money but the holdout cost him a starting job.

He really has big changing games this year. What a player!!!! Thank god we didnt pick up Beanie Baby :)

Re: Malcolm Jenkins

But who would you bench in order for Jenkins to start? Greer? Porter? I think it's fine the way we've been using him. Bring him along slowly and if he takes over the nickel role from Gay, that in itself would be a nice accomplishment for his rookie season.

It appears our offense is definitely missing that power short yardage back doesn't it? ;)

Re: Malcolm Jenkins

Right now Greer is the best DB on the team so hes not going anywhere. Maybe Jenkins beats him out if he was there from day one who knows but I do think he needs more playing time but I can't answer who rides the pine for him to play. Best bet would be maybe as a rotation after a long coverage for someone to get a breather I don't know but he is creating turnovers.

He would not be starting over Greer or Porter. They are not the biggest or the fastest, but they can sure play.

Again...I agree, and I'm sure he will become more "involved" as the season (and He) progresses.

Not getting down on Jenkins at all. But how do a few good special teams plays translate into being a starting cornerback?

its about effort and he does get playing time on defense.....i noticed him playing some zone this game but i still havent seen him successfully cover someone in man coverage...

when he makes plays on special teams it opens up eyes and makes people watch him more whenever he is on the field....including playing defense

It doesn't...But it does show that he has "skills", and only time will tell if he can be a starting CB for the Saints.

SP was speaking very highly of Jenkins this morning in an interview on Sirius NFL radio.
I don't remember all the specifics, but he listed plays from all 3 games where Jenkins directly affected the scoreboard.

And I think he (SP or GW?) mentioned he was improving quite a bit in practice too.

Re: Malcolm Jenkins

From his current position on ST Jenkins has accounted for 14 points already this season.

He's in a perfect situation. There's no need to start him right now with three talented CBs out there.

Also he's gotten to play some nickel. He was out with the regular defense for at least a couple of plays yesterday.

Bring him along slowly. Trust me the season is long enough that he's going to get a shot at extended playing time before the season is over.

One thing I hope Williams continues to do is to get him out there during blowouts. He'll get lots of practice then without jeopardizing the game.

When was the last time we had so many good DBs that we were worried about a good player getting playing time???

Not that I remember. Great problem to have!

Re: Malcolm Jenkins

he is not ready to be a starter at CB by a long shot. Can you say Free Safety. His play looks to have FS written all over it

Re: Malcolm Jenkins

He's been a special teams demon. This will earn him more opportunities from the coaches to get in on nickel or dime situations.

Disagree 100%. The only knock on his CB skills was lack of top end speed. He’s already proven that’s a myth by chasing down a couple different speedsters.

He is exactly where most rookie CB’s are their 1st year.

So far his play has "playmaker" written all over him.

the knock on him isnt his top end speed right now

his problem is his ability(or lack of) in man coverage......he is doing great on special teams but that doesnt always translate to defensive production

currently he is the dime back and thats fine for now.....unfortunately we dont want our first round picks to all be busts so hes got to eventually step it up and prove he was worth it

i want him playing on defense as much as the next guy but hagan in right.....hes not ready yet

Hagan didn't say he wasn't ready yet (which most rookie CB's aren't), he said he wasn't ready by a long shot.

There's a difference between not ready, and not ready by a long shot.

If we hadn't signed Greer, he'd probably be starting, or at least getting a ton of time at nickel.
