Carney's last kicks?

Is this the last week of the John Carney audition?

with Morestead overachieving on KO's, do we try to stash Hartley on PS?

any chance we carry all three on the 53? If Lance is healthy we could send Chase back to the PS.

would suck for Carney to be so close to 2000 career points and 3rd all-time to lose his job this week

I hope not .... I think SP learned his lesson a couple of years back.

I still can't believe Olindo found a gig after the Saints. Did the Seahawks not go the tape on this dude?! http://209.85.12.234/7361/20/emo/eusa_doh.gif

Re: Carney's last kicks?

I guess this is a nice situation for the Saints. I say don't mess with how things are now, but at the same time I really like Hartley. I honestly don't think the Saints could stash Hartley on the practice squad, there are some teams looking for a kicker.

As for Seattle, Mare actually had a nice year for them last season, this year he looks more like the guy the Saints had a couple seasons ago.

Very true, if Carney is released he should have no problem finding another gig for this year. He is still an excellent kicker.

Probably.

I didn't think we could. But it looks like Hartley only played 8 games with the Saints last year. When you are active for 9 games in a season, you are no longer eligible.

Why? From a performance standpoint, Hartley hasn't done anything to lose his job. From the stupidity standpoint? Maybe.

Bring Hartley back. Cut Carney. Pray.

That's about it.

If Tynes keeps missing 21 yd. fg's, Carney may end up back in NY.

Wait O' Minute?

Wasnt Hartley missing gimmes in preseason???

No Freakin Way.

Kickers are flaky, and the best way to choose kickers is to weed out the flaky
ones first. If you're missing what amounts to an extra point, something's wrong upstairs-- dont blame the holder.

Lets go with the kicker who hits consistenly within his range and gives us no
surprises.

Carney was nailing it from 53 yards during warmups yesterday. I watched.

Re: Carney's last kicks?

Never thought I would say this but i want us to keep Carney. I like Hartley and all but Carney is getting it done so far, he's consistant and I liek that.

Re: Carney's last kicks?

either payton didnt trust carney's range or he was just super confident in his offense to get the short yardage on 4th down

either way carney didnt get an opportunity to show his worth.....hartley hasnt missed a field goal for us in the regular season

Re: Carney's last kicks?

This scares me and this is going to be a tough one for Payton. Agree with Smashmouth. They let Carney go before and regretted it. Wish there could be another way out. I say we carry three and let the competion play out during live action before making this call. This could be done in three or four games. Place someone else on the practice squad for now.

yeah I agree
not to mention it would look good if he broke the 2000 mark with us and not some other team

when does the suspension officially end? Don't we need to make a move one way or the other?

As soon as the Jets game ended...

Re: Carney's last kicks?

Did we go for that 4th and 1 because we thought we could make it or because we didn't have confidence in Carney to make a 45 yarder.

If you can't trust a guy with a 45 yarder in the Dome, that how little can you trust him outside???

MatthewT 10-05-2009 06:28 PM

Re: Carney's last kicks?

I think it was more of Sean Payton trying to get the offense moving than not trusting Carney. Payton will learn that when in FG range with a defense playing great you should always go for the points.

I hate to change horses in the middle of the ride, but I wonder if we can afford to let GH go. Carney can't go forever (he'll be on Medicare soon!).

Maybe we get GH to sprain a toe and go on IR for the season, the keep Carney for the rest of this year.

Weather up here is wet and low 60s. Need some snow! :D

Cut R. Harper. Sign him to the practice squad, where he should have been anyway, and keep two kickers for now. If the need for a roster spot comes up, cut Carney and hope for the best.

Good thinking. I bet you are correct on this one.
