So, after Carney missed that XP....

.. anyone still trusting him on do or die long FGs?

.. I for one, am glad Hartley is around.

Man, that was a blocked kick, nothing Carney could do about that. I will still take Carney any day on FG's 40 yards or less.

.. yes, it was a blocked kick without much penetration by the defense, and that means he didn't kick it high enough to clear the LOS.

Agree, I think the Giants blocked it. I'd look more at the kick team offensive line to where the breakdown was.

As for Carney... I think he was selected for the probowl last year but didn't start.

Better than his last missed extra point.

Are you still hating on Morested? You know your boy made two HUGE tackles yesterday when the coverage broke down.

Still haven't watched the replay of the kick but the ST coach said tonight on the coaches show it was a blocking break down not the kick or Carney.

No, not hating on Morstead, just hating on pissing away 2 draft picks on a punter.

For two picks he should be the freaking gunner on coverage units too. ;)

Re: So, after Carney missed that XP....

Not, in any way, Carney's fault. He didn't "miss"... It was blocked.

saintsfan1976 10-19-2009 10:45 PM

Re: So, after Carney missed that XP....

And Morestead is proving his worth. Think of it like this Danno - we got two players (kicker and punter) when we drafted Morestead.

Really...if we had'nt have wasted those picks we probably could've beaten the Giants convincingly...

I keep hearing this, but the fact of the matter is that we were already eliminated from playoff contention by the time that PAT was missed. In fact, someone may have already known this and instructed him to miss so we would have better draft position...not to mention the possibility of someone getting hurt in OT unnecessarily. (hind-sight speculation on my part)

and bizarre ways to lose. The Curse has been real. I love a team with a curse.

Its true, even if we had made the kick, and then won in OT, we would have still missed the playoffs because another team that was supposed to lose actually won, thereby eliminating us anyway.

If its anyone to hate after that day its Doug Brien ... if he doesn't miss a kick for the Jets and beats the Rams then the Saints go to the playoffs. Even though it makes the last day of the season exciting I'd rather control your own destiny to the playoffs then needing help to get in

I think you got your end-of-year curses mixed up, Brandon. I think the Jets/Rams game where we needed help came after we beat the Raiders, and the River-City-Relay was a different year. My mind is fuzzy.

The snap was fine. Brunell bobbled the ball, throwing off the timing, and Carney just hooked it. I still trust the old man more than the kid. The coach needs to let Hartley try a long one in a game just to see where he's at though.

Depending on how Hartly looks in pratice would determine if I would start him. I guess it would not hurt to give him some game kicks. He is probably the saints starting kicker for the future. We all know Carney probably wont be back next year.

Re: So, after Carney missed that XP....

I understand where you are going with this post
The game was on the line and it was a missed kick
but from what I could see the hold was slow and sloppy and as a direct result of that happening it looked like he had to studded-steep (hesitate) just before he kicked it
and the defender got his hands on it

can't blame this one him alone
:boohoo:

The problem I have with that, I don't care about the timing or the stutter-step.. If you have been kicking footballs for a living for 20+ years, you should be able to easily kick that ball high on a straight line even if the ball is on the ground. And you don't need 3-4 steps.. your leg should be strong enough for that kick from a standing position.

I know because I could do it.

Re: So, after Carney missed that XP....

Whatever decision the Saints make on their starter, I hope that they keep them both on the team. There's a few teams that need a good kicker and both our kickers are good.

".. anyone still trusting him on do or die long FGs?

When he missed that conversion, I SWEAR I had a flashback of the missed extra point after the lateral fest in Jacksonville... If the Phins scored a TD and won after our boys came back all that way, I was going to take out a hit on Carney's butt!

I realize that Carney is one of ours and some of us are loyal to a fault, but enough is enough. Get Hartley out there already!

I still have no confidence that Hartley can make a do or die FG from any distance.
