Market for Bush opens in 2010
Market for Bush opens in 2010
12:29PM ET Reggie Bush | Saints | Interested: Ravens?, Packers?, Chiefs?, Seahawks?, Titans?, Redskins? Top Email http://a.espncdn.com/i/headshots/nfl...rs/65/9588.jpgWith Reggie Bush set to carry a salary cap number in the $8 million range for 2010, the New Orleans Saints will be forced to make a tough decision this upcoming offseason: keep the occasional game-breaker for that high cost or cut him loose to fend for himself on the open market. While we don't yet know what the Saints will do, we can begin to hypothesize a bit on where he might wind up if he were to be cut. Amongst the league's bottom-feeders in punt returns -- one area that Bush can help, given his explosive capabilities that netted him 270 yards and three TDs on 20 returns in 2008 -- we see the Washington Redskins, Seattle Seahawks, Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs, all of whom may be looking for a new running back as well. In addition, Bush might get some love from the Tennessee Titans -- who have the league's top rusher in Chris Johnson but are still searching for an answer in the return game -- and the Baltimore Ravens, who could make use of Bush's skills as a receiver given their lack of weaponry in the WR corps. All this said, with a salary cap possibly not in play for 2010, the Saints might just hang onto Bush after all. http://a.espncdn.com/i/columnists/schefter_adam_30.jpg Adam Schefter Bush would be valued commodity "Here's the question you have to ask: If the Saints do not want to carry that number, how much would Reggie Bush be worth to some team on the open market? And I would say, quite a bit. Maybe not $8 million, but certainly a hefty number in this day and age. Some offenses could make great use of him. Going to be an interesting situation, especially if the Saints go deep into the playoffs." |
Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
He negotiates.

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
Man, haven't even made the playoffs yet and other teams are ready to raid our roster... LOL. My bet is Bush understands that he is in a great situation for his talents and would do a contract extension with loads of incentives.

Just what I have been saying all this time... now its starting to creep up in articles...

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
WTF do half those teams want with Reggie, or would Reggie want with them? I can guarantee he has no interest in playing for losers like the Chiefs, not when we're 9-0 and making a run this year.
The Redskins? That's where overpaid players like Randle El go to die. The Seahawks? Their QB is one hit away from retirement and a string of 4-12 seasons...no thanks. Packers? Maybe, but the idea of Reggie playing in the frozen turndra after spending his career on the warm west coast and the comfort of the dome doesn't seem like a huge likelihood. The Titans? I can't see Reggie taking the back seat to VY and Chris Johnson. He has is own special place here, even amongst our superstars like Drew. I think he stays put and renegotiates if need be. I expect better thoughts from Schefter...but he's a news-breaker, not a thoughtful writer. |
Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
In addition, assuming 2010 is an uncapped year, which looks very likely, who the heck cares what Reggie's cap number is? As long as the stadium is sold out, and I've been on the season ticket waiting list since 2007, the club is making money and Benson may just not care too much as long as his guy is producing.
And on the Ravens, they already have a guy a lot like Reggie - his name is Ray Rice. |
Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
I think we should re-negotiate with him after this year. If not, I say he goes to a West Coast team.
In an uncapped year, Im sure Al Davis and the Raiders would give him 50 million a year, lol |

I wish he would stay and become the Saints greatest running back ever.

He's a west coast guy, with a touch of Hollywood.
I can easily see him finding a California team more attractive, or one of the New York teams. And as far as going to one of the bottom feeder teams in punt returns. we rank 31st in the league. |
Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
Bush = LeBron James mini me?
Can't we wait until the season is over? I've spent weeks in the offseason begging for Saints news. Let's talk about it then. |
Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
If he goes he goes. More and More versatile RBs are coming out of college these days. And we still have Thomas, Bell, and Hammy
|
Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
If Bush is as smart as I hope he is he will get an extension loaded with incentives. I can't see him being used as effectively by any other team...they would most likely want to make him an every down back and we all know how that has worked out here. Here he is part of a strong team and has a chance to be part of something big.

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
The last thing we need is for Mike Bell to finally show Reggie how to run the rock this season and him go to another team. There would be a flood of negative articles towards the Saints orginization which is unfair to say the least.

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
You know, if we ran the single wing, it might make sense to keep him at that number. I like having him on the roster, but I suspect he will be too pricey to keep for an occasional return specialist.

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
Reggie will take the cut to remain a Saint

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
Bush aint goin nowhere. Case closed.

Re: Market for Bush opens in 2010
I had a feeling that once Schefter got to ESPN they would bathe him in their toxic waste and he would become yet another one of their useless experts that bows down at the feet of Farve, Cowboys and Patriots. He was money on NFLN now what a joke.
Bush isn't going anywhere, he's in an offense where he is surrounded by playmakers, only the Colts or Patriots are as loaded on offense as the Saints.... but if some stupid GM wants to just hand the Saints 4 to 5 draft picks for Bush even this Bush supported would have to think twice about it |
