Saints ask for fans' help with safety at airport returns
The New Orleans Saints today asked fans who turn out at the International Airport to welcome the team home to refrain from approaching the players' cars as they depart from the airport.
As the Saints' winning streak has grown, crowds have progressively grown as well when the team returns triumphantly to the city. In a press release signed by owner Tom Benson, coach Sean Payton, GM Mickey Loomis and quarterback Drew Brees, the team noted that, "in recent weeks, the number of people lining the streets at the airport has grown to the point where it is now a safety issue." Officials say their main concern is safety, especially the potential danger of having small children on a crowded street where vehicles are passing. The team is also asking fans to refrain from asking players for autographs as they drive. Bainbrigdge, the street upon which the team exits the air field, is largely unlit, and players have been swamped by eager fans of the undefeated team seeking autographs and high-5's.
