Probably a dumb question...

In this TP article discussing Bush's status for Sunday:

Receiver Devery Henderson, tailback Pierre Thomas and safety Darren Sharper have been taking reps in practice as punt returners. Henderson and Thomas have never returned a punt in the NFL. Sharper hasn't returned one since 2004.

Why not have Roby return punts? Is it really all that different from returning kickoffs? It isn't like Roby hasn't had returns of 80+ yards including a TD in the last month.

A dumb question I guess.

One big difference between kick and punt returns .... for a kick return, the team has a chance to set up blocks before the defense can get to the returner. For punts its easier for the defense to get to the returner, might be why they use Bush for punt returns. IMO I'd rather Payton use Roby more and only use Bush when the team needs a big return off a punt

Well if you muff a kickoff it isn't that big of a deal. If you muff a punt...

I guess that is the reason that most teams have different KR and PR players. Hands guys are more important on PR.

even though Rod Harper is on IR he did a real good job at punt returns, (2 punt return TD's in preseason) hopefully he can carry that on when he comes back at the start of next season.

I can't decide if Reggie should play or not, I want him to be ready for Monday night football but if he's able to go this week then I say give him some reps.
