**SAINTS CAN CLINCH MONDAY NIGHT vs PATs***

TECHNICALLY - If my math is correct and we beat the Pats. Then the worse case happens and we lose out the remainder of the season, we'd be forced into a tie breaker with ATL. In which case, we win the tie breaker based on wins agains NYG and NE (Bucs needs to beat ATL this week as well).

TO BREAK A TIE WITHIN A DIVISION

If, at the end of the regular season, two or more clubs in the same division finish with identical won-lost-tied percentages, the following steps will be taken until a champion is determined.

Two Clubs

Head-to-head (best won-lost-tied percentage in games between the clubs).
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the division.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games.
Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
Strength of victory.
Strength of schedule.
Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
Best net points in common games.
Best net points in all games.
Best net touchdowns in all games.
Coin toss

Beat the Pats and we win the Division!

Wow. This season has flown by, and with the possibility of clinching the NFC South after Week 12 is something that I don't think any of us saw happening at the beginning of the season. I know I didn't. This has been a dream season for Saints fans everywhere. If it is a dream, I don't want to wake up.

I didn't see this coming in preseason either. I was hoping for 12-4 or 13-3. Now, the skies the limit.

Edit this post title...it's false advertising...

If the Saints beat the Patriots, and then (theoretically) lost their final 5 games , that means they would be 3-3 in the division. If the Falcons won out, and went 11-5, they would be 4-2 in the division.

If Tampa beats Atlanta on Sunday, then we'll have our chance to clinch on MNF, for what's it worth.

Re: Saints can clinch monday night!!!

So IF a one-win team beats a team that's fighting for a wildcard spot and coming off 2 straight losses, then we have a chance to clinch on Monday Night. Yeah, I'm fired up and TOTALLy expecting that to happen.

No you don't delete it WTF is your problem... we can clinch division with a win over the Pats and Tampa beats ATL. ANYTHING can happen and its very possible.

here is more proof
Colts, Saints can clinch divisions | ProFootballTalk.com

ANY tie with Atlanta we have them beat in tie breakers... we win the Division. Do you even know what advertising is?

Saints on verge of clinching NFC South title
November, 23, 2009

By Pat Yasinskas
Before we even get to December, the New Orleans Saints might have the NFC South title and the playoff berth that goes with it officially wrapped up.

For the first time this season, the NFL just sent out playoff-clinching scenarios. The Saints can clinch the NFC South with a win against New England, and either a loss or tie by Atlanta against Tampa Bay. Technically, the Saints also could clinch if they tie with New England and Atlanta loses to Tampa Bay.

The only other team that has a shot to clinch anything this early is Indianapolis. The Colts can clinch the AFC South title with a victory this week and a loss by Jacksonville.

Here, have a praline, and relax a little. How bout some hot cocoa? all better now.

I thought Gamblers were laid back.

If the Saints beat the Patriots---they're 11-0. . . and they BEAT THA PATRIOTS. mathematics, schmathematics--- we're in, dont you think? Sure, numerically we could lose it. Numerically, I could develop a glandular problem, grow a horse schlong and steal Kim away from Reggie.

I wouldnt sit up late waiting for Skymikey to appear on this week's Keeping Up With the Kardashians. Nope, I'll be busy in Vegas signing stuff at the AVN awards, and promoting The Mikey Pump.

thread stays. It is imperfect, but so is Wrigley Field.

that does open an entire can of rhetorical worms, doesnt it? naaa, no special message here, I'm just tired of talking about winged monkeys & my butt, so I thought I'd sex up an old cliche a little, and give it a Saints-related twist. ***

I dont know anything special about Reggie or Kim, and all I can tell
you about myself is my pants fit just fine, and my wife & I smile a lot. I dont know, maybe she's laughing at me. http://www.jazz.com/assets/2009/1/7/...SmilingBob.jpg

*** this little piece of humour could backfire, as I plan on making a play
to be the future Bush's wedding DJ. I could just see Reggie staring me down, going, "Whats this bs about you, and a horse, and Kim?" Man, that would suck. I think they're gonna get married, and I think I am qualified to do their wedding. So everybody, shhhhh!

Forget the math (sorry dad - he's a mathematician). If we're good enough to be the Pats, Giants, Eagles, and Jets, no way we lose to BOTH the Redskins and Cowgirls. And if already beat Atlanta, Carolina, and Tampa once, no way we lose to ALL THREE, including the worst of which at home. Not saying it's a done deal, but Brees would have to have a collapse reminiscent of 2001 Aaron Brooks to screw this up! So in other words, we can psychologically "clinch" (if not mathematically) Monday night.

Thats the spirit of the thread G-5. well done.

...and you spelled it out so eloquently without the use of glandular disorders, private parts, or horses. I must say I am envious of your talent.

Agreed:D It's all about beating the teams that you are supposed to beat and faring well against the tougher teams. As it is, the Saints are beating all that come...however, beating the Patriots on MNF for ALL the world to see, our Saints will have nothing but growing respect from the national press as well as growing confidence in the locker room...hence the psychological clinch...

Shoot I'm half hoping that the Bucs lose to the Falcons, we win, and they Sunday in Washington we'll be able to clinch...since I'll most likely now be at the game.

Well, I didnt do it was well as G504, who came up with a much better stated
case, much more presidentially, but you have to admit mine is colorful too. But thanks for the encouragement. If you like, I can send you a free Mikey Pump-- read the directions carefully, and never ever use it in the morning!

I think the real question would be, with our schedule the way it is, for the rest of the season, once we do clinch, when do we start sitting players? i'm a firm believer in momentum, and i think sitting players is a bad thing. Especially if you have a first round bye, (remember the eagles game?). So what do you do?

We don't sit. We show the '07 Patriots how it's done.

The only thing i want to show the 07 patriots, is our superbowl ring for 09. I would rather have a championship, than a perfect regular season. If it comes down to those choices, then I sit the starters if need be. We already lead the league in injuries. I don't want that to come back and haunt us in january.

Of course, if it has to come down to those two, you pick the Super Bowl. But if we're 14-0 after the Cowboys, why not try for the whole shabang since TB is a pushover and Carolina won't be hard?

Re: Saints can clinch monday night!!!

I'm just saying that I would rather have a
rested group of guys going into the play offs.
I remember the 07 pats. They looked tired
when they lost to the giants. They ran out
of gas in the second half, and they also had
bye week. Belicheck took a lot of heat for not
sitting the starters as well. I'm just saying,
that when the dolphins did it, it was a 14 game
season. Maybe there's a reason why no one
has done it since. The superbowl is more
important than anything else.

I agree. We finish the deal. 16-0 would be nice, but, as the Pats found out, 19-0 is infinitely better! Let the starters get some rest, especially ones that have been banged up, but don't let the offense get out of sync. 2008 Panthers not withstanding (who I still say their record last year was VERY misleading - they won 6 very close games, should been 6-10, but we got that "Panthers own the Saints" monkey off our backs, so I'mma let that drop), the team with the bye week usually wins that divisional playoff game. So I'm not too worried about it, but just hope we're being extra cautious. Even if all the starters return next year, this is a special season. We gotta do this NOW.

SaintPauly 11-25-2009 04:17 PM

Re: Saints can clinch monday night!!!

One thing you gotta remember, is during the season we can afford a loss, and it won't hurt us as much. Once the play offs start, it's one and your done! I believe it was arizona that went into carolina, and new york last season, and shocked the favored teams, to end up taking the NFCC, back to arizona, where they won, and went on to the superbowl. Nothing is a given in the NFL, NOTHING. Just because we go 16-0 regular season, we could still go 0-1 in the play offs, and then it's on to the draft.

I will leave the decision to the coach, but my ten cents have been spent.

skymike 11-25-2009 06:50 PM

Re: Saints can clinch monday night!!!

While I want to win every game, I want first, to go as far as we can, hopefully to the Super Bowl. So if that means sacrificing a perfect record,
so be it. I care not about stats, or even W-L records, if we already own a
bye.

There's a good chance we'll be playing backups for the home Tampa game, but I still want to win, even if I'm watching Brunell.
