Weakest Position on Team

If you had to pick the weakest position on the team, or positions that need to be address in the offseason, what would they be?

YOU CAN VOTE FOR MORE THAN ONE!

Backup QB...

Re: Weakest Position on Team

At this point, I would say defensive tackle. With Big Sed out the last few games and Clancy out for the year, it has been excruciating watching teams run up the gut on the Saints the last few games. Ayodele, Pressley, and Hargrove have played ok, but nothing special.

DL
I don't think we are as good as we should be on that DL. I'd give it another season or so before Greg really does something with it. I still don't like Grant in there for the money he's making.

ST
Playing pretty sharp and smart lately but I still would like us to be better.

I'd like to see another interior D lineman, another OT and someone to challenge Goodwin at center.

Re: Weakest Position on Team

LB - Big problems behind the starters
DT - Ok depth, but with starters out we suffer when the starters are injured. Of course, that would be true of any team I imagine
C - I don't even know who the backup is, and Goodwin is in his ninth season I think.

I voted because this is not a power ranking, it's an estimate of need consensus.

Re: Weakest Position on Team

I voted DT. Klancy excelled only bc Ellis was there. Just imagine an Ellis clone starting opposite Ellis... Grant and Smith would have 12 sacks each.

Of course ... Our defense has slipped a bit since the injuries ...

Voted DT, but not happy at the DE position, Grant is obsolete in most games and doesnt warrant the money he gets..

Vote FB think we need someone who bust it up for our RB's

Voted K because of the Carney/Hartley confusion. Rest of the team has areas where we could improve, but no weak links.

OC.

I voted DE, but could have voted DT just as easily. OT isn't looking so hot either, especially if Brown doesn't return.

In order

1. DE
2. DT
3. LT
4. OC
5. WLB
6. SLB
7. FS
8. K
9. P
10. FB
11. SS
12. RB

why do you think we need DEs?

will smith has 8.5 sacks which is tied for 5th most in the league with robert mathis who is arguably the most complete DE in the league

charles grant is tied with justin tuck and joey porter with 4.5 sacks

combined they have 56 tackles(28 each) 13 sacks and 4 turnovers in 10 games

they are playing pretty well for all the hate they were getting earlier......

and you have them as your biggest need?

why?

The same question could be directed at you for why OC is our biggest need when Goodwin has done a pretty damn good job.

Re: Weakest Position on Team

All names we know at the bottom of 1 and the top of 2

Marvin Austin*, North Carolina
Height: 6-3. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 4.88

Arthur Jones, Syracuse DT/DE 34
Height: 6-4. Weight: 294.
Projected 40 Time: 5.06

Vince Oghobaase, Duke
Height: 6-6. Weight: 310.
Projected 40 Time: 5.11

Boo Robinson, Wake Forest
Height: 6-2. Weight: 326.
Projected 40 Time: 5.22

The riser this year and leap frogging some if not all of these DT is

Dan Williams, Tennessee
Height: 6-3. Weight: 311.
Projected 40 Time: 5.20

If this kid comes out he maybe the steal at DT/DE in the draft

Lawrence Marsh*, Florida
Height: 6-5. Weight: 305.
Projected 40 Time: 4.87

Williams has a history of going after big DTs with speed.

goodwin is playing well in between 2 of the best guards in the league

all he has to do is not screw up big time and evans and nicks can usually make him look good

goodwin hasnt gotten better all of a sudden.....but he does have one thing he didnt have the past couple seasons.....a top 10 LG on the other side of a top 3 RG

goodwin is great for depth but seeing as tho its still the easiest position on offense to upgrade and probably our biggest need on offense, i find it easier to explain why OC is our biggest need as opposed to DE

and beyond that.....i know why i want a center.....i dont know why he wanted a DE so bad

Arent you guys CBs banged up right now? (but otherwise are good Cornerbacks iirc, not familiar enough with the Saints to know.)

Charles Grant is not even close to being a high quality DE. If it weren't for Gregg Williams system Charles Grant would still disappear for 3/4 of a season. He also happens to be 31 years old.

Will Smith is having his finest season yet. But I can't ignore the 3 seasons before that. He's adequate to above average. Certainly upgradable.

Neither are even close to being as good as their contacts.

I probably could have put DT above DE but in our system the DE is more important IMO. We have 1 good one, but none great.

Totally agree on Grant.

And I think Gregg wants to add his prototype DE or OLB to the Saints defense. (see Javon Kearse and Keith Bulluck).

I'd move DT to #1 bc Ellis needs another Ellis next to him. Kendrick C is only good bc of Ellis's play. After Ellis, there's a big drop in talent there.
Keep DE up there bc of age and contracts.
I'd put OLB above C and above LT. I get what Canton says about C, but we have two stud Guards that help out really well. We probably don't have enough draft picks to get a C this year.
Does Brown come back at LT? Or does he move back to RT? Loomis's calculator will have to work overtime.
Sharper is unbelievable, but Usama behind him....ehhh. I think FS is a priority in two years.
Punter seems high to me. I would actually rank it below RB and FB simply bc of the wear and tear put on those positions.

Good job Danno

Re: Weakest Position on Team

I voted DT, for obvious reasons...we need one more beast in the interior. We play CAR and ATL twice a year, and if you can't stop the run against those a__bags, then they keep the ball the whole game. Ellis is awesome, but he's injury prone, so matching him with another of his caliber would shore up the DL even when Ellis needs to sit. Easy.

Re: Weakest Position on Team

I have to also go defensive tackle. Since Sedrick went out, teams have been running all over us. That's too much of a responsibility for one guy. I honestly think that we have another draft like last year, ALL DEFENSE. Just give Gregg Williams the cards, and let him do the draft himself! Payton can go play golf.

I want to change my vote to the Fans!

Last game I saw on TV I don't think there were nearly as loud as they should be. Seems like when we had the DOME PATROL it was way louder in there.

Re: Weakest Position on Team

I agree with Danno and I can see Canton's point as well. But at #12 in Danno's picks is RB. Now don't get me wrong here guys. I think Bell and Thomas has done a pretty good job so far. But we need a power runner. And it just so happens that Mississippi State has one in Anthony Dixon. He plays on a team that is very bad. Bad QB and no WR's. Dixon is in my opinion better than Duece was when he was at Ole Miss. I would love to see Dixon in a Saints uniform.

He was all over the place tonight. Even extra points were shaving the poles. He must have had some bad gumbo. I hope he gets it out of his system. We may have to have all of those one day.

Strong Safety, Roman Harper

That ball was in the air forever, reminded me of the Bears game last season...he's got no nose for the ball like Sharper...

Harper is gone after this season, with Jenkins projecting as a Cornerback/Free Safety, and Sharper showing he's still got some gas left in the tank, I'm curious what the Saints do at Safety...

I'd have also voted Defensive Lineman, cause...you can never have too many defensive lineman...
