What does 16-0 mean to you?

How important is a perfect regular season?

I personally would settle for healthy and HF throughout the PO

You gotta be 16-0 before you can be 19-0.

Why do so many people think you can't have both?

i don't think ppl dont' want both, but i think the importance needs to be SUPER BOWL!!! 19-0 would be great, but 18-1 would be horrible if that 1 was the bowl.

I'm just saying not every team will choke like the Patriots did.

You can have both its just very hard to come bye. If they do then great. The Super Bowl is why the game is played. I'd rather have that ring.

I want the Super Bowl I dont care how we get it :)

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

It'd be awesome to undefeated in regulation but obviously for now Minny is still within arm's length. We grab a week's bye this w/e against ATL and then we secure HFA by whatever means necessary afterward. If that means we go perfect, all the better :notworthy:

agree with all, i don't care about it. I want the ring. we got to win the one at the end.

Always shoot for the stars. I want 19-0 so I can hear "only two undefeated teams in NFL history" for the rest of my life. :-D

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

Winning the SB is the only thing that is important. If 19-0 can get that done, then fine. If 16-0 impeads the team's ability to win the SB, then scrap it.

If the Saints secure home field next Saturday, then for the next two weeks, the starters should only get a cursory walkthrough in the final two games, with the backups finishing up. If we win, fine. If we don't and no one gets injured, that's fine too.

The Cards were 9-7 last year. If their defense could have made a stop on that final drive and they won the SB, then no one would care about the fact they were 9-7.

OTOH the 18-1 2007 Pats are remembered most for losing the SB.

So if it's 19-0, that fine. But anything less had better have SB Champions following it i.e. the 18-1 SB Champion Saints ...

Although I'm proud of this team for what they've accomplished already, a 16-0 season would erase for most of the world the memory of the Aint's and put the team in the same discussions of the best team of all time.

SaintFanInATLHELL 12-12-2009 09:48 AM

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

But FF, if you lose the ultimate prize being greedy, is it worth it?

Most likely there will be absolutely no incentive in terms of winning the SB for the Saints to run their starters out week 17.

Is it really worth the risk?

Home Field is what i want...dont really want that added pressure. just one game at a time.

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

I don't think it would be a good idea to start sitting players and dial back the play, but, all things equal, and if it came to that, I would definitely prefer to see a 14-2 Saints team at full strength playing in Minnesota than see a limping Saints team play in the Dome.

TopCow 12-12-2009 11:04 AM

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

Peyton wants 19-0, probably because he sees what Indianapolis has done to itself in the past. By resting the starters once HFA is wrapped up, the Colts have lost momentum and been kicked out of the playoffs early.

For that reason, I would like to see us 19-0. But the undefeated throughout doesn't matter as much as the Super Bowl ring. If we can do both, all the better.

I don't think that's an either/or situation anymore. With the distinct possibility of the ViQueens losing to the Bengals tomorrow, the Saints can have home field wrapped up by beating the 'clowns tomorrow and the Cowgirls on Saturday.

The real question is how long do starters have to play to stay sharp. A quarter? A half?

A game? I just remember bad things after bye weeks for the Saints. Just imagine after 3 bye weeks.:ohno:

I'd say, you practice your starters as usual and game plan as usual, then let them play with no determined time table to pull them out, and depending how the game is going - and I don't mean the score - then you pull them out.
If the Saints are physically dominating, if they are doing the hitting and the shoving, let them play.
If they are getting sloppy and getting manhandled, or something like a hammie starts stiffening, then you pull starters out.

But don't seat them for 4 weeks, no.

This is slightly off topic but since we're talking about going undefeated... I thought you guys might enjoy this. Especially after that Monday Nighter two weeks ago!!! :D

BTW... good luck on your quest! Especially with it being done clean!!!

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

If Payton sits the starters with a game still in doubt, I think the players and fans feel ripped off. I think every player on the team wants to go 19-0. How could any coach take that away from them?

Out of the Saints 400-500 losses, only 1 made me bitter: The loss on Christmas Eve 2006 where we laid down like little b****** for the Panthers. How'd that work out?

Brees gets clocked by Julius Peppers in the 4th quarter of a meaningless game in terms of the playoffs and because of severe headaches cannot start the first postseason game.

Yes I know that it could happen today, or happen next week. But in those instances the team is still playing for something relevant to the playoffs. In this instance it's absolutely positively meaningless in terms of getting to the ultimate goal. Also if it happened sooner rather than later, there may still be time to recover.

I would feel both cheated and foolish if something like that happened.

As I have said, let them play enough to be sharp. Look at the preseason. Brees played not at all in the Miami game, the last preseason game. Did he look rusty against the Lions the next week.

What makes you think these guys will forget how to light it up if they take some time off. I don't mean not practice. I don't even mean not to play in the game. But a series or two just to get warmed up should be sufficient to stay sharp.

Um, we beat the Eagles after a week off and made it to the NFC championship game? Sounds like a strawman to me.

I'm not saying take all the time off. All I'm saying, and will continue to say, is to be smart about it because the most important thing now is to be healthy for the playoffs.

There is nothing more important than that right now.

Nothing.

Obviously, our priorities are much different.

Mine is to do what we must do to win every game. That's what we have been doing for 13 weeks.

Yours is to win the SB. OK, fine. But I much rather make history while doing it. When history calls, champions don't hide under their beds.

A coach that calls off the dogs and loses the big game will be reviled and criticized forever.

A coach that goes all out to win and loses the big game will be sorry for 1 day.

Not a strawman, buddy. Karma. Teams that lay down on their fans and the integrity of the game get what's coming to them. Strawman my a$$. I don't care how many times you say "um", I know I'm right.

I think every Saints player wants to go all out to win. But they're just a 12-0 team, so what do they know about winning?

Re: What does 16-0 mean to you?

The problem with sitting the starters is that is doesn't seem to work very well for the playoffs. Hasn't worked well for the Colts and didn't work well for the Chiefs when Marty was there.
