Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
My family moved to New Orleans in 1978 when I was three years old and we were there for six years. So I guess that gives me 31 years. Man, that makes me feel old.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Well I didn't have my dad around to enforce a team on me (he's a Vikings fan) but the little league team around here that I played on was the Saints. So around '94 I declared the Saints are my team!!!

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
In 1973 I opened up a pack of football cards, saw Archie, and told my dad, a long-time Steeler season ticket holder, that this was my new favorite player and the Saints were my new favorite team. He laughed.
Now he goes with with me to 2 games a year and cheers as loud as I do. Saw my first game in 1978 at 3 Rivers. Pretty sure I represented at least 50% of those cheering for the Saints. About 250 losses later, I am still here and loving it. Had to wear earplugs and take 4 different pills at half-time today because I have a severe sinus infection, but I had to see a 13th win in my backyard. |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
20-40+. Grew up in Shreveport and everyone knows thats Cowboys land, went off to school somewhere that showed Saints games. Was already a fan but from 83 to now there is no looking back..

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
I've been a Saints fan since 2003, I am new compared to most of you. It's hard for me to see most games, as I live in Toronto Canada. My first live Saints game was in week 3 this year in Buffalo. That is where I heard about B&G from some other Saints fans tailgating across from Bills stadium, from Shreveport, La. That was like a dream come true!! Who Dat from Toronto A.K.A "T.O"

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
42 years and counting. I'll live to be 100 so that will be 93 years. woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohooooooooooooooooooooooo

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
About 20 years.
I became a Chargers fan about 30 years ago. As I stated watching more football, Saints became one of my other favorite teams. Especially after visiting NO a few times and going to a Saints game. |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
2002, so I'm in the 5-10 category. That's when I met my wife, who was a Saints fan, and brought me on board. I've been through the weekly Haslett press conferences ("football's hard"), the Sullivan pick (ugh), and the meltdown at the end of 2002 culminating with the loss to the crappy Vikings on the Culpepper fumbled 2-point conversion.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
1967...I was seven. I started playing N.O.R.D. that year. Pontchartrain Park Patriots...Richard Neal was a neighbor...used to get the entire team into a game every year he was there...God rest his soul. I've seen them all from Tom Fears days of Kilmer. Abramowitz. and Demsey, to Hank Stram's Lightning and Thunder (Muncie & Galbreth). Excuse me if I'm still not turning flips at 13-and-0. I'm hoping our ugly ways don't catch up with us at the wrong time.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Well, I've been in the states since 1978 ... didn't know what football was. There was no NFL in Europe back then (no exhibition games played). Since I landed in New Orleans, it's been ever since, really! Dang! I've been here along time!
|
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Pretty much since 1966. I was 8 when the Saints started and loved professional football. Back in the 70s it was hard to be a serious fan. It was 1978 when my addiction became complete. Haven't missed a game since.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
I've been a fan since birth so that makes 30 but my Saints memories start at about age 5 so I guess you could say 25 years, doesn't make a difference how ever you want to slice it

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Since '69, the third year of existance.
|
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Since I was 12 (Im 30 now) after getting home from church. No one else in my family watched them.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
I've bee a fan since 1970, the year my family moved to New Orleans. Even though I've been in Houston for 17 years now and do my best to support the Texans (except when they play the Saints), I have remained a true Saints fan for life. I stick with them no matter if it is a great season like this one or if I am sitting in the dome with 10,000 other die-hards when we can't win a game to save our lives. In my book, that's what makes a true fan -- supporting your team win or lose. This year it is just a whole lot easier to call myself a Saints fan.
Geaux Saints. |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Been a fan since 85, I was 10, living in Oregon who has no team and was not about to jump on the Seagals wagon.
Did more pushups in basic training than ever needed because I would not bash them and now do not want to buy a new hat, shirt or jersey because I am afraid I will look like another band wagon member. PS - Living in Dallas this year has been the best year as a Saints fan!! |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Been a fan since the middle 70's. I don't remember exactly when I first started paying attention. I was just a teenager. I do however, remember watching in 1980 the dedicated fans on TV with the bags on their heads.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
In the 60's, growing up in the Delaware Valley, the Eagles were the local team, who I couldn't stand BEFORE they threw snowballs at Santa! At that time I latched on to some flashy guys from Texas called the Cowboys (Landry, Staubach, Lilly, Hill, Garrison, Alworth, Hayes, etc.). I was much put down for the longest time until they started winning and the bandwagoners climbed on board.
Then I found another team with no record of winning, the Steelers (Knox, Harris, Gilliam, Bradshaw, Blount, Greene, Ham, Lambert, Swan, etc.). They started winning and don't ya know it, here come the bandwagoners again! So I bailed. Then I briefly latched onto the New England Patriots before THEY started winning. (Grogan, Eason, Cunningham, Tippet, Morgan, Stingley, etc.) They had a run in with the Bears in the Super Bowl and, you guessed it, more bandwagoners. So, how do I end up with the Saints and my team? I figured that any team who boasted such a dedicated fanbase that they could wear bags over their heads on TV on NFL game day... well, THAT is the TEAM FOR ME! It's so sweet having people just smile and nod when I'm sporting my Saints gear, knowing that if nothing else, our time has come...and I ain't losing my seat on this wagon for bandwagoners ever again! Geaux Saints!! |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
It seems like every year that we have a good year, this question comes up. I remember
answering it in 06, and 00. Oh well, here we go again. I have been a saints fan since they were in the century division. Back then, they were in the same division with the steelers. My father and brother liked the steelers, so I sided with my grandfather, and picked the saints I think I was four. Oh well, was there for the archie, and dempsey years. Through, phillips, mora, I even remeber the year wade phillips became interim coach. Long timer here. |

Oh well, I sorta accidently attended one of her shows in the late 80's, and I kind of saw more of her than you did, I think. She was actually kind on the old side. Decent shape, though. Its weird, but I didnt get the kind of show I was expecting. There was something kind of all-american wholesome about her. It was like Happy Days with skin. I thought she was a nice lady, and totally didnt belong in a sleezy Houston strip bar. Anyway, back on track, I saw the first Wade Game too! Wow! 29-6 was it? Clobbered Dieter Brock, stopped Eric Dickerson cold, and messed up the playoff bound Rams. Talk about a win that felt good. We werent going nowhere, but I was happy in the Dome that day! small world, Buds. |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
Been a Saints fan since the day I was born. I've lived in Tampa, Dallas, and North Carolina, but I've never strayed from my love of the Saints.

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
It's so funny, my dad has always said that Wade Phillips looks like Captain Kangaroo. The similarities are astounding!

I just turned 30 a few weeks ago, so about 20 years. |

playoff game. They could have used that line in Back to the Future, the way the headline read "Cubs Win World Series. Victory over Miami." "My first Saints game was a playoff game vs. the Vikings." --- mmm. guess you had to be there pre- '88 to completely get that. |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
This is what I'm talking about, fans sharing memories
of games in history past. This is awesome, for the fact, that it doesn't make u more of a fan, it just makes u feel good to be able to relay these memories to new, and future saints fans. One of my favorite memories of watching the saints play back in the 70s and 80s, is spending time with my grandpa (rip), and just listening to him tell me stories, about his life, and his experiences. I hope one day to tell my grandchildren about my memories too. The Saints are a very big part of my history, and I will always be proud of that. |

remember the Superdome, seeing the Saints up close at training camp, and the walking parade down Poydras on gameday, not to mention the Louisiana touristy stuff we do. We have a tradition of covering their eyes when we cross Bourbon St. |
Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
A lot of my childhood memories coincide with the Saints. I remember rushing home from church to clean up the house before my dad would call tv10 in Lafayette to find out what channel the game would be on so we could find it on the 20 ft wide satellite dish that we had in the back yard. If not for the Saints, we wouldn't of had that god awful looking thing

Re: You've been a Saint's fan for how long . . .
I guess reallity is none of us will be here forever,
and new saints fans are a must. So I say I don't care how, or even when u came onboard, just glad ur here. The more the merrier, and we are building a bigger, stronger saints nation, for the future. |

I have never lived in New Orleans and since being able to drive have never lived closer to New Orleans than Atlanta, GA. I have been to the Superdome to see the Saints 15 times and have seen them play against Carolina in Charlotte every year since they started in the league, plus two games while I spent two years in Atlanta. |
