Anyone who might be a threat to his throne had a non-stellar week, so Brees could've done anything he wanted and kept the top spot. What he did do, though, was complete 31 of 40 passes for 296 yards, three touchdowns, and no interceptions. No one can accuse Drew Brees of resting on his laurels. It wasn't the smoothest of weeks for the Saints, but again, the job was done. I'd say Brees is one more good week away from wrapping up the number one spot here for good.

Rivers' performance against the Cowboys was better than the statistics would show: 21-of-32 for 272 yards, one touchdown and one interception. When the Chargers needed one more score to put the gane away, though, Rivers was all that is man. He went 4-of-5 for 73 yards on the drive, with a touchdown pass to Antonio Gates(notes) capping it off.

Kinda interesting that both Brees and Rivers were on the same team.

Personally I don't think he's better than Brady or Manning, but if he does win a SB he'll pull even with them.

If he goes 19-0 then he passes them.

Thanks for posting. Rankings aren't gay, and have never been gay. People that think rankings are gay may be gay, but rankings aren't.

i dont really pay attention to power ranks but its jsut nice to see a Saints player on it. thats just my opinion.. respecting Euph's and Xan's "Gay" remarks about it..

btw. Chargers this year are under the radar. rivers is developing into a great QB. good luck bolts fan.

For the past couple of weeks ESPN and NFLN have been praising Cry Baby as an MVP candidate. Personally, I don't see it. But then again, there was a time when they praised Leaf over Peyton...

Difference... Rivers earned his praise.
**** was all hype and bought into his own hype.

Rivers may be a lot of things but he's no cry baby. He's scrappy and he runs his mouth... and the players feed off it!!!
He's also a tough SOB. How else would you explain playing in the AFCC with two torn knees?

As for being a MVP candidate... I think he should be there but that doesn't mean he'll finish ahead of Brees. This is Brees's year.

Another thing to keep in mind...
Rivers is into his 4th year as starter.
42-18 Regular Season
3-3 Post Season
He can't be that bad!!!

I don't know why some of you are so bitter about Rivers success (42-18). No Chargers fans are bitter about Brees. In fact, we're happy for him!

I've always found that interesting.

As for Rivers being up there with Brady and Manning... well he's only into his 4th season. That will be determined when he's been around as long as they have.
But his stats and win/lose record certainly don't suck.

These rankings suggest they are similar to the BCS rankings. If one cares about such rankings then they should perhaps follow college ball.

In Professional American Tackle Football all that matters is the W-L column and who has the highest point total in the final outcome in this little game they call the Super Bowl. Thats the only trophy that matters.

Any other rankings for this professional sport we call tackle football is all BULL!

He's like a man possessed on the side line and has a major passion for the game. Yes, his time will come!

Though I have nothing but respect for Brees and I hope he does get MVP. Obviously it will be either Brees or Manning but honorable mentions are Rivers and Farve.

2006 was a very tuff decision between LT and Brees but (without being bias) I think you had to give it to LT for breaking that single season record.

This season... hands down, Brees should get it.
