Wake Up Call

Positive posts only on this thread----

Why I don't give a Sh** that we lost this game:

1. We came out flat, but almost came back again. The fact that we didn't is a great indicator that we can't expect to sleep walk through the first half and win every game.

2. Drew Brees is mortal. He has to take care of the ball. The Henderson underthrow was terrible, and he could have had 2 more picks easily. We know he'll play better over the next 5 games.

3. After the first quarter, the defense was excellent. Porter and Fujita had 6 and 9 tackles. Welcome back.

4. The perfection nonsense is finally over. At the beginning of the year our goal was to win the Super Bowl. Well, we are still on that path. The perfect season was a distraction, so hopefully we drop off the radar a little and everyone looks at us a "same ol' Saints".

5. Finally, the Cowboys did what SP and Williams couldn't: show us that we can't play half-assed and win every game. Now our backs are against the wall with must-wins if we want to get HFA. This is where Brees and SP will thrive.

All is good Saint Nation. A big thanks to the Cowboys for reminding to play our best. Will hand them a personalized thank-you note on Jan 16-17.

6. We don't have to go through the ritual "they have to lose for us to get a Wild Card" talk.

Now the team can stop thinking about the perfect season and concentrate on playing better. I still think the D will turn up the intensity once the playoffs start.

7. I think this team needed something like this. I was amazed at all of the bandwagoners jumping around with Super Bowl talk and how nobody could beat us. This is the NFL, and it's almost impossible to win them all. I think this will be a great reality check, and a gut check, for this team. I think they have it in them.

8. We're still missing two giant pieces of our defense (Greer and Ellis) and we held a pretty good Cowboys offense to 24 points. While that's not great, I don't think the defense played terribly. They made some big stops in the second half to give us a chance to come back. The one thing that does worry me is that we're not forcing turnovers like we were doing earlier in the season and I think that has to do with a lack of pressure on the quarterback. Need to get that fixed.

Wake-up call time for the Saints.

Bushrod had his hands full with ANOTHER pro bowl DE. Prior to last night, he's played admirably. (keeping thread positive)

SAINTS STILL CONTROL THEIR OWN DESTINY.

This is what I was preaching in chat last night. I hope this game showed coaches and players they cannot wait for the other team to make mistakes at the end of the game for them to win it, and help them realize that come playoff time, this is the type of team they are going to be facing.

Earlier in the season we were healthy.

9. Shockey is a crucial piece of our offense. Will be very good to get him back. Our receivers aren't as open without him consuming coverage over the middle. D. Thomas played well, but we need more than one tight-end.

10. If we get even one turnover in that game, I think we get more momentum and win last night's game. Could have really used a pick 6 last night.

We actually haven't been healthy all year: J. Brown, Bell, PT, Bush, Moore, Shockey, Evans and Goodwin all have missed, not to mention we haven't had 11 starters on D play together yet

At least we are 13-1 I picked us at 11-5 so I hope the team has learned and they can get healthy it time to make a run. The Saints have two more ties to get the top spot. Payton needs to work some magic, O line not able to give Brees time and the defense looked out manned. Shows how tough the NFL can be. Blocking help against a great player in Andre was not there. Still love that even as bad as it was to lose the Saints kept it close and at least had a long shot chance to come back.

Yes, but if people here expect to see the same aggressive defense (and results) from early in the season, they're not gonna get it. We were a lot healthier during that stretch. Lately it's been a patchwork D with players unable to rotate and unable to pin back the ears.

Good point neugey, which reminds me of how bad Roman Harper is in coverage. Not only does he get beat on coverage, any time a ball hits him in the hands he drops it.

Now I like how he plays in run support, but he's a liability in the secondary. He dropped an easy interception last night which we really could have used.
