Five good points from Peter King

Re: Five good points from Peter King
1. The Cowboys' front seven never let Drew Brees get comfortable. By my count, through three quarters, Dallas moved Brees off his spot in the pocket -- either by sacking him or flushing him from the pocket -- on 50 percent of his pass drops (12 of 24). Brees never got comfortable or in a rhythm all night. That was huge.
This is true this was huge. |
Re: Five good points from Peter King
They knew what Payton wanted to do and they stopped it. He didn't adjust fast enough.

Re: Five good points from Peter King
Yes he does..that D they run reminded me of the dome patrol..i like a 3-4..but yeah Bushrod was overmatched to say the least..

Re: Five good points from Peter King
You know what Strato - the 3-4 defense seems to be our nemesis this year. Miami, Washington, and I think Dallas runs a 4-3 but they sure brought some LBs last night.

Re: Five good points from Peter King
It has been all year..i just like blitzing LBs...reminds of the D.P

demarcus ware is good but he is having an off year and he was coming off a big injury to his neck #74 got beat bad nearly every play and on the plays that he didnt get beat bad, he should've gotten beat bad because he picked up the wrong guy anyway |
Re: Five good points from Peter King
I just couldn't believe there was no help over there for Bushrod. Ware is a unique and dominating pass rusher, especially on that last drive, why wasn't a TE lined up over there to help? I know the situation was dire and the Saints needed receivers in patterns, but still, you have to give your QB a chance to throw the ball. Oh well...

But Canton, that's what you get with a backup playing the starter role. He's played well overall but should be expected to have problems with a guy like Ware (regardless of his season's stats). He's our LT for the playoffs. I don't want to see Streif there for sure. |

And, above all, we are going to have to make an effort to get the running game going again. |
Re: Five good points from Peter King
Shockey being out prevented the Two-TE set we normally run. Which contributed to there being no help for Bushrod. I was curious why Strief was never given a shot at some point? Was he active?

Re: Five good points from Peter King
I will give the Cowboys credit - the runningbacks and especially Romo, outside of one throw, did a good job of protecting the football. Saints never came close to getting a turnover.

Re: Five good points from Peter King
Payton hinted at his press conference that Bushrod was playing hurt. In fact, the whole OL was banged up. Plus not having Shockey didn't help.
The running game wasn't working. Looking back, we should have ran more Lance Moore screen passes. |
Re: Five good points from Peter King
I'll have the same double captainccino obviouso grande King is having...
.. man, Shirley Povich is turning in his grave right now... |
Re: Five good points from Peter King
Let's see how opponents handle us when we have all 4 wide recievers, Shockey, and Bush healthy and a 2 week rested O LINE.
Our Bye Week was in week 4! Not sure how many time I need to remind people of this. |
Re: Five good points from Peter King
Put a pin in Point#1 - and then ask Sean Peyton why he didn't do something about it. Not necessarily an extra blocker; Brees is the dink-and-dunk king. This was the perfect game for gutting the opponent with the underneath routes...draws...screens. We wouldn't even have to help Bushrod when everything is happening behind Ware's bull rush - Dallas would have made DWare do something else if he was out of every play. We tried to force our will on an opponent that wasn't having it. They weren't giving us anything deep and we didn't take advantage of the short. After Bush came up lame, Lance Moore should have been sitting down in the middle. Dallas played well all around - we play lousy all around.

Re: Five good points from Peter King
Four targets out on any play through various combinations with Thomas/Bush, Colston/Meachem/Henderson/Moore, and Shockey/Thomas is good enough to move the football all night long. Not giving Bushrod any help was just a bad coaching decision.
