Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
The race for the Most Valuable Player award has seemingly morphed into a two-horse race between Peyton Manning and Drew Brees, but when you poll league executives there is another quarterback worthy of inclusion.
Philip Rivers has quietly enjoyed a sensational season directing the Chargers' aerial attack, and the scouting community can't stop singing his praises. "He is a very underrated quarterback in this league," said an AFC personnel director. "Tough, competitive and productive. ... He has shown up when others haven't in big games." Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race Hey guys... this is no intention to take any credit away from Drew and/or to say my QB is better than yours. As of now, I think Drew very much deserves MVP but this is a cool article. It also contains a video where Phillip discusses the days with him and Drew on the same team and gives Drew major props. He felt that the QB situation brought out the best in both players and that they are still friends today. It also contains a good amount of Saints and Brees footage. So you guys might enjoy it. It also contains a MVP poll. |

If they go on Leadership ..Good Qualities and overall being good person..Brees wins hands down..

Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
Rivers is having a great year, but right now it really has to come down between Manning and Brees. One thing that amazes me about Rivers and the Chargers, is they are taking care of business with a very limited running game. Of course you can say that about the Colts too, but in the Colts case that was pretty much expected...

They're both great leaders and great QBs. Very different but both are top 3 in the league. If you saw that video... both have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. |
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
This thread should be moved to the NFL forum.

Well that's not up to me but as it mentions... "The race for the Most Valuable Player award has seemingly morphed into a two-horse race between Brees and Manning." If you checked out the video, there is saints and Brees coverage. |
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
Not that this has anything to do with the MVP race but does anyone know what Rivers contract is? What about Drew's when he was with the Bolts?

Drew's original contract with the Bolts was from 2001 to 2004... then he signed a one year extension into 2005. I can't remember the value, I'll have to research... but I know his one year extension was 8M. |
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
Wow. For that he better be in the MVP race. Thanks for the info. No need for the Bree's numbers. I was just wondering how much the Chargers saved when they let Drew go.

Sure thing. I haven't found the value of Drew's original contract with the Chargers yet but I found something interesting... After the 2005 season, the Chargers offered Brees a 5-year, $50 million contract that paid $2 million in base salary the first year and the rest heavily based on performance incentives. Brees took the incentive-based offer as a sign of no confidence by the Chargers and promptly demanded the type of money a top 5 "franchise" quarterback would receive. I know wikipedia isn't the most accurate but I do remember that the Chargers wanted him to return. |
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
Bump...I want to make sure all the Charger threads are kept right up at the top. Maybe if I do this long enough people will get tired of this guy posting all this SD garbage.
Personally, I would prefer to see the son of NO's favorite son going against our Saints then Freaky Fill-up Rivers. |
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
this is very much saints stuff. Bolt is just starting the crying when drew wins MVP. it is a heads up for us and will give us time to get our one liners ready for the cry babies. LOL
Both are solid. Right now i have to give it to Rivers over the past 6 games. He has played better than other QB in the NFL. BUT Drew is the man leading the saints to the promise land the saints have never gotten this much press. So if this is the year for Drew it looks pretty good. Now we need the Colts to fall. As for Bolt posting here I am all for it. Even if the bolts site refused to let join. LOL There is a mod input. |

This is a good thread. Of interest to Saints fans. I don't think Drew Brees is the Most Valuable Player. If he was the Saints would have won more games in 07, and 08. The defense is Most Valuable Player for the Saints. Manning fits the description a little better. If you are looking for Greatest Player, Leader on and off the field, Brees wins easily. |

Second, considering that I've been posting on this forum since like 1998, nah, I'll stay here. I like here.. although, lately we have had this influx of rejects who get banned from other boards that are bringing the quality of the site down. And for your benefit, here's the tile AND the content of the article. I have taken the liberty to hi-light all mention of any Saints stuff. As you can see, Drew Brees is mentioned twice and the Saints are mentioned once, and only as means to comparison to Rivers/Colts. That's 4 words out of 1490. This is an article about Phillip Rivers, period. It should be moved to the NFL forum. Quote:

Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
Who cares if it is about Rivers?
If this board is going to become one where folks are afraid to post something because it was posted already, might not be completely relevant, isn't in the "correct" forum, etc etc and other board members are going to call them out for doing it then it has no reason to exist. We already have a Saints board for that sort of behavior. When I go to a bar and a fan wants to talk about his team, I don't ask him to go someplace else. My wife and I sat with Cowboy fans we didn't know at Woodrow's for the Cowboys game. We invited them to sit there. We enjoyed it. This is my virtual Saints bar not my virtual Saints secret clubhouse, decoder ring included. |

LOL. There's no crying in football. Besides, if Brees wins it... that's cool cause I like him. I prefer Payton does not win it cause I hate the Ponies. As for the other comments.... yes, this article is about Rivers but what is that topic? Rivers gaining ground on Drew's lead of MVP. People who said they were refused... Bolt Talk won't refuse you, cause we have fans of different teams in there... though Retard and Donkey fans stay out due to embarrassment. |
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
Yuck the Bolts!! There I said it.

Man, I liked what I saw last night... BRING ON THE PONIES!!!

Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
theres a reason for everything and thank the allmighty for drew in the big easy
|
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
we can all say what we want but its a how you average out that wins the mvp not what you did for me lately, ala rivers, drew and manning has gone from start to 13-0 then drew 13-1 manning 14-0 and now rivers 12-3 and then comes drew 14-1( pretty sure anyway) manning 15-0 so lets give the mvp to surely not to phillip. but drew or manning will win it.

Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
i think that if brees dont get it he is truly robbed. no other qb had did for their organization that brees did for new orleans. Besides Peyton of Course. It just seems like drew is getting looked at negatively at one game. SO not fair lol
|
Re: Chargers' win streak, gaudy numbers push Rivers into MVP race
I think it's going to Peyton with Brees, Chris Johnson, and Philip Rivers all going behind him in no particular order. I think all is deserving and only one is going to win it.

With that said, I don't expect Rivers to get it or do I think he should (unless Brees completely falls apart in the last two games). But what I'm loving about this is how the NFL has tried to make Rivers look like a villain and wished bad things on him (yes, some of it he did bring on himself)... now he's doing so good that they can't deny his ability anymore!!! You know... we were the villains going into Indy in th 2007 playoffs and I kind of like it that way!!! WE ARE THE NFL'S PARTY CRASHERS!!! :D |
