Speaking of the run game....
 

Bell and Thomas, have been kind of quiet lately. I am hoping they have a big game on Sunday. It would be really nice to have the running game back up to where it was going into the play offs. How do we do that? That's the question.... Better blocking would be a great start!

I'd say the big thing is not getting behind early so Payton will not abandon the running game. The way Bell and Thomas have been running, they may have a couple of five yard runs before they break one for twenty. Even Bush has been running better, but the last few games the balance has been gone.

That was one of the points the announcers made after the Dallas game. That we weren't balanced enough on play calls. We got down early, but we weren't out of it by any means. I also seem to remember Bell, and Thomas having some good runs in the first half of that game. We just abandoned it prematurely. I agree on Bush looking better too. I've been impressed with him lately. Not fumbling as much!

NO, Thomas & Bell have'nt been QUIET, Sean Payton has been QUIET... You can only rush for so many yds., when ur coach is only dialing up so few run play's. Like all analyst & broadcaster's have been say'n, the
$A!NT'z after week 10 have went away from the run game... Now, that also can explain why we have'nt been blowing teams out or not anywere near as explossive as were before. We used to be balanced & looked great, now we are doing just as we were the last 2 yrs.
WE have to get back to the basic's & balance or run/pass game again. When we do that, we dominat team's, its NO secret.
Unless we do that, we will be one & done, bottom line.

Also, GW had our defense look'n strong the first half of the season, now we are being exposed & man-handled by every team. We used to BLIT'z heavily through out every game, now GW has us play'n conservitive. Thats stupid, let'n any QB sit back in the pocket & pick apart our banged up secondary. I don't care who ur DB's are & how awesome they may be. If u allow them 5-6 seconds to run around after there origanal routes, they WILL eventally get open, nuthing u can do about that. We have to put constant pressure on the QB's we play against & that's that.

(We have to be SUPER-AGGRESSIVE) ~ If not, were finished!!!

3 and out twice to start the game and no defense negates the running game quickly. Dallas defensed the screens as well.

I have said I thoiught both PT and Bell had injuries. So maybe SP was nursing them through games .... oh until we were way behind then we threw even more.:doh:

Tampa's run D has been as bad as ours, so let's hope we get it going early. I think we put up a ton of points:

You guys are right when we get down early the run game goes out the window. When they know we aren't running here comes the pressure on Brees. These divisional games are never a walk in the park, they always come down to dogfights which is not what we need right now.

I also recognise the danger of Div games. Unfortunately, we only have those games remaining. TB, Car.

I think we will have a repeat performance of the game played on 11 Nov!

I just hope that Bushrod reads this forum. After the way everyone let loose on him all week, that would put a fire up his thunder shoot.

In fact, I think the entire offensive line has alot to prove today. They gave up alot of sacks, last week.

Give the rbs, the ball, early, and often, and we win this game big time. Get down by 2 tds, start passing every down, and they are going to blitz non stop all day.

if we dont try to run it, then the defense knows exactly what we are doing and its going to feed into their strengths

if we establish the run and continue to pound the ball then we will coast to an easy victory and clinched homefield advantage

the bottom line with the run game is that if you only run the ball 11 times you cant establish the run.....that was the clear cut case against dallas and that is the biggest reason why we lost IMO

our defense feeds off turnovers and we get turnovers at all against the cowboys.....rather than try and keep up with drew....they just tried to prevent drew all together......and it worked......nothing long except that first TD......they nickel and dimed us all the way down the field and never hurried back to the line to get a quick snap......

we either blitzed the house or didnt blitz anyone and the cowboys guess right almost every time.....its obvious that max protect is too much for our blitzing defense and we cant continue to do that.....GW needs to start mixing it up more......blitz 5 or 6 at a time instead of 8 or 0 at a time
