I blame it on Sean

Two 3rd and 1 calls to punt. Stupid. Play it like you know you are going to win.

You mean 4th and 1, but I agree. Way too passive. This was a game where Payton should have taken it to TB, but he played like Jim Mora: "Let's play not to lose." We all know how that works.

Special Teams cost us the game.

I do too. All three facets of the game had great moments today, but we still lost. I could tell something wasn't right at the start of the second half, Drew did NOT look like he was in charge of the offense. Something has changed. Payton is going back to the know-it-all persona of 2007-2008 and I think it's rubbing off on the team a bit. God bless our O for driving down the field one last time only to come up short (wide left Hartley).

I dunno what to say....only laugh......and stay busy the rest of the day.

What a terrible time of the year for the "same old saints" to show up.

Team needs to play. Your job on D is to stop someone. Colston's job is to hold onto the ball. The O line needs to pass block.

Payton, are you kidding me. Go make a GD play

oh and hey- STOP A PUNT RETURN

This GD team is guilty

Make that first half up until the last two possessions. When we went 3 and out and gave it back to Tampa with about a minute and a half to play and they went right down the field and scored the FG, the whole game changed.

We should have gone for it on 4th down. Everyone know's it. What's done is done. Time to move on to the Panthcunts. We will win that game.

Why, because you expect your team to be unable to stop a punt return, are ya kidding me?

I would have went for it, but this is the players fault THEY FAILED TO DO THEIR JOB

No, I am not mad at you BDUB

Nervous times for SP. Only 1 of 2 ways to go.

Pull this team back to where it was at the Pats game and make an impression in the playoffs

OR

Flunk, and we get the age old label back and SP is in real trouble because
the only way out is a stunning playoff run regardless of the regular season record.

I understand, but I have faith in our team. They did not do their job but its time to regroup and play football like we know how to. We will next Sun.

Love ya bud. lol

I think Payton made the right call punting on 4th and 1. Morestead was punting awesome all day up until that punt and the return for TD.

I have more of a problem with offensive playcalling - Saints mixed the run/pass well, but need to get more creative. Never seemed to catch the Bucs off guard.

Re: I blame it on Sean

4th down is the down designated to kick the ball

whether it be punting or field goal attempts......4th down is designed for the offensive team to win either the field position battle or to score 3 points

in the NFL it is stupid to assume that 1 yard is so easy to get.....especially when you see teams go entire games without scoring any points......if yards were so easy to come by then teams would go for it on 4th down nearly every opportunity they have.....but the reason they punt is because they know that they will have another chance and they will have to capitalize on it or battle for field position yet again

its not a punishment to punt the ball......its a reward to the defense for the team having such a bad showing on offense

Payton has seemed to be off lately with his play calling. I wonder if he is just being too cautious about opening up the play book this lat in the season.

Agree with you wholeheartedly neugey, especially on the one that got returned for a touchdown. We were deep in our own territory, and it was a good decision. Simple fact is, we have to be able to cover a freakin punt. Special teams was a big part of why we lost that game. I don't blame Payton for the decisions to punt at all. If this team had taken care of their assignments, nobody would have said anything about the decisions to punt.

On the flip side, if we had gone for it on 4th and 1, and not gotten it, I'm sure a lot of you guys would be on here blaming Sean for making a stupid play call. Point is, he made the absolute right call in the situation.

I do think that Sean deserves some blame for the playcalling in the second half in terms of sticking to the running game. I believe that we only ran the ball 10 times in the second half. We need to stay committed to the running game, and the offensive line needs to pick it up big-time.
