Irvin Favre compliment and sig...
I played Amer. Legion baseball in Gulfport during the summer of '72 and Irvin Favre was the head coach. I played 1st base most of the year, (first time ever for me to play that position) and I was the 3rd pitcher on the team. I didn't pitch much as you only had a couple of games a week, and our other 2 pithchers were good. I did get in a few games during the season, but mostly just played 1st. When the state tourney came around at the end of the season, I was forced into action. We had consecutive games for 4 straight days, so there was no avoiding having your 3rd pitcher start a game. By the time my turn came around, we were 1-1 and fighting through the losers bracket. I found myself pitching against the... you know what...this story is too long. Suffice it to say that I pitched a 2-hit shutout against Greenville that night, the favorite,...and then had to pitch the next day in the finals...the last 3 innings...after pitching 9 inninigs the night before. It was brutal. We lost. Anyway, we got a certificate, and Coach Favre signed it and said something like, "you're a winner all the way...good luck in the future." |
Whether you think you can or think you can't...you're right!
