It's now all on Payton

It was Payton's decision to rest everybody with any type of skill until he ran out of spots on the bench (hence, Meachem played the whole game) and conceding the 0-3 finish. So now it's on you, Coach. I hope you have some aggressively creative play calling, line-up changes, and strategy that no one but you knows about ready in 2 weeks. I'm not doubting you, I'm just sayin'.

I agree G-Man. I'm the one that kept yelling to put Brees in during the live chat. This game was easily winable. The Saints just pissed it away. They weren't even trying to win. Sean Peyton better have a damn good game plan two weeks from now.

Re: It's now all on Payton

This was not the usual game for protecting starters. We haven't won in 3
weeks, and haven't played confidently in 5 weeks. That's hardly the time
to protect starters. Personally, I think Payton squandered a game that we
could have used to get back on track and gained confidence. If we looked
that bad against a mediocre CAR team, just think how we will look against
DAL or PHI in the playoff game.

I still have hope, which is in the nature of a long time Saints fan.

We don't want to see Dallas again, they dismantled the eagles, beat them worse than they beat us. I think we have a chance against Vikings.

It's not so much Payton as it is Williams. The defense can't stop the run, and everyone knows about it. Hopefully they can improve the tackling over the next few weeks and we can somehow trick em on defense, cuz it doesn't look like we can roll over them.

We could either see Dallas or Eagles.

It doesn't matter who we see, Payton will have the team ready. We get up for big games and you know Brees will be ready for the spotlight.

im not sure how the playoffs scheduling goes, but since dallas is the #3 seed, we probably wont play them in the 2nd round. because the #1 seed usually gets the lowest seed winner of the first round. and if dallas wins, they'll be the highest seed winner in the first round which mean they would get minnesota. is this correct? anyone know?

Only way the Saints play the Cowboys would be in the NFCCG since they are the 3rd seed

That's correct. If the Eagles win, we definitely play them, since they're the lowest seed. If *heaven forbid* Dallas wins, we play the winner of GB-AZ.

Payton will play a BIG part, but its still about the guys on the field making plays. Execution is key. Fundamentals are ALWAYS key. Tackles have to be made, drives have to be sustained, pressure has to be applied, and even guesses have to be right. Each man will have to control his man and let the results speak for themselves. We have to step it up and control the line of scrimmage, Payton nor Williams can't do that. Bad calls and the like have to be made insignificant by outstanding workmanship (big lead). Payton has two weeks to get them ready.

And keep the penalties to a minimum! Especially the stupid penalties (off sides, personal fouls). Don't give the refs any reason to throw a flag!!! Play tough, but play smart.

You sound like a little girl. Enough with this placing blame on SP before the team ever plays the game.

I guess this is the thanks he gets for his team wrapping up the #1 seed early.

Oh, and the "just sayin'" crap is annoying too. If you want to sound cute find some line that is not being used on every other post on the internet.

It's not all on Payton. But the team needs to execute his game plans to make the most of where we are now.

That's kind of what I'm worried about. I just hope there's not a tripple reverse, half-back pass to the tackle-eligible pulling guard. IT'S PLAYOFF TIME! You can get away with a lot of TomFoolery and you can fool some of the people some of the time...BUT IT'S PLAYOFF TIME. Use you weapons-YES! Keep you opponent off balance-YES! Put your people in position to make plays-YES! Stupid stuff? Unh-Unh! Keep it simple, diverse, but simple: Run and block, pitch and catch.
