Re: Grant out for season!
My first thought about this was that while Grant wasn't all we hoped for he was the starting DE for the Saints. He must be the second best DE the Saints had right? I won't challenge G. Williams if that's what he believed.
My second thought was a question. Who fills in? McCray just got a DUI last week right? I guess my hope is a bit renewed in Spicer but I'm not liking this too much. |

If Will Smith were to go down, McRay would be a better RDE than Grant would. Spicer is a lot like Grant and Hargrove in that he has the bulk to play LDE effectively against the run, and can slide inside and play the 3-tech nicely on pass downs. Hargrove and the suspensions being placed on hold were the main reasons Spicer was let go IMO. And also McRay is probably a better back-up at both spots than Spicer is. Spicer is probably a very poor option at RDE. |

Jeff Charleston | #97 | DE New Orleans Saints | Official Team Site Height: 6-4 Weight: 265 Age: 26 Born: 1/19/1983 Oregon City , OR College: Idaho State Experience: 3rd season High School: Central HS [Independence, OR] As far as Hargrove. I doubt he plays DE since we really need him in the middle. Pressley hasn't proven he can cut it as that guy and Hargrove is way to valuable on the interior d-line. |

McCray has back problems so that worries me. I also would not be surprised if we made some more moves. Spicer may not be here very long. |
Re: Grant out for season!
Was it just me (and my slow, poor resolution work computer) or was Pressley involved in a lot of run stuffs last week? If so, he might be a blessing in disguise.
And hopefully Charleston will come on like he did in that game last year (I forget which one) when he had two sacks allowing Hargrove to stay in the middle. |

Re: Grant out for season!
Well my two cents is this. If I had a choice of getting Grant, or Clancy, back for the play offs, I would take Clancy everyday of the week, and twice on Sunday! I'm not a big "Grant" fan. I haven't been since we drafted him. Too fat, and too slow. Unmotivated..... Actually sounds alot like me, no wonder I don't like him!

Hargrove in Grant's spot could be very interesting :o)

Re: Grant out for season!
I ain't gonna miss Grant...re-watching some of the games and the majority of longer runs were on his side. Looking at his stats, he is LAZY, meaning some plays he busts his butt but the others he sits on it. Plus he was the clear definition of a non-factor/waste-of-space in the bigger games. Someone mentioned he had his biggest games against the worst teams, and for his money, that ain't worth missing. He wouldn't be going against STL's line or TB's line next week, so we're actually gaining by subtraction. But I'd take him any day of the week if we were playing STL in the conference championship game.

Re: Grant out for season!
Started to skip this thread but I could not help myself. Grant by far is my least favorite Saint. Totally agree he has not shown up since payday and time for him to go. Think his departure will actually help this team. Hope the next news I hear about Grant is a trade or release announcement. If we get everyone else ready to help I think Hargrove can take the majority of the load and be at least as effective as Grant has been which should not be that hard to do. In fact if we do not get better play out of him than Grant we are going suffer and give up long runs.
