Great - YET ANOTHER Defensive injury - We are limping into the playoffs.

THIS IS NOT A GOOD SIGN!!

I'm really worried about our ability to stop the run with Grant done for the year. McCray is supposed to be a "pass rusher" but seems like a liability against the run. I think that GWilliams will dial up the blitz like earlier in the season when the secondary was healthy. Let's hope for the best......

Don't forget it was Grant that was out of position when Jonathon Stewart popped that long one on us last week.

A little more pressure from the other side can only help Bill's production. Chuck simply wasn't providing that supporting pressure.

My first thought about this was that while Grant wasn't all we hoped for he was the starting DE for the Saints. He must be the second best DE the Saints had right? I won't challenge G. Williams if that's what he believed.

My second thought was a question. Who fills in? McCray just got a DUI last week right? I guess my hope is a bit renewed in Spicer but I'm not liking this too much.

McCray will fill in quite nicely with Charleston/Spicer rotating backups. McCray won't be suspended anytime soon if at all.

I would love to see Tony Hargrove get the nod. He is a natural DE who has been filling the role of DT. Mario Pressley is also another high motor type who can fill the role. I have always liked Spicer, but there wasn't room for him at the beginning of the season with all the depth we had at DE. But, I see Spicer as depth rather than as a starter. Sure, I can see him getting time, especially when we go with the three DE alignment along with Ellis, but I would like to see Hargrove getting the bulk of the play opposite Smith.

Well its a bit more complicated that that. McCray is probably better suited at RDE than LDE, and he isn't beating out Will Smith.

If Will Smith were to go down, McRay would be a better RDE than Grant would.

Spicer is a lot like Grant and Hargrove in that he has the bulk to play LDE effectively against the run, and can slide inside and play the 3-tech nicely on pass downs.

Hargrove and the suspensions being placed on hold were the main reasons Spicer was let go IMO. And also McRay is probably a better back-up at both spots than Spicer is. Spicer is probably a very poor option at RDE.

That's all true Danno. But I still think McCray gets the start in Grant's spot. He has played there at times anyway. And don't forget this guy. I bet we see more of him than Spicer.

As far as Hargrove. I doubt he plays DE since we really need him in the middle. Pressley hasn't proven he can cut it as that guy and Hargrove is way to valuable on the interior d-line.

Probably true. Spicer is here strictly for depth in the rotation. And I agree, Hargrove is probably our best LDE option, but it would weaken our DT's way too much to make him switch.

McCray has back problems so that worries me.

I also would not be surprised if we made some more moves. Spicer may not be here very long.

Was it just me (and my slow, poor resolution work computer) or was Pressley involved in a lot of run stuffs last week? If so, he might be a blessing in disguise.

And hopefully Charleston will come on like he did in that game last year (I forget which one) when he had two sacks allowing Hargrove to stay in the middle.
