The Burning Question??

So im a defensive guy..thats my thing...so i want to know what ya'll think about us blitzing....do we or do we play it safe and hope our front four can generate enough pass rush on Warner?....I think we have to hope our front four does and we can drop back in coverage ...Warner can be lethal against the blitz..unless and this a big if..you rattle him early..thats seems to be the majic potion..Any thoughts..

I think we need to pick our spots. Blitz less than we normally do and try to mix up the coverages. Zones with Jammed at the line.

Yeah confuse him with zone coverages..our front four really need to bring some heat..Its crucial..and i agree with your point..

Re: The Burning Question??

I think you have to keep him guessing. I think when you show blitz and you blitz, then sometimes you show blitz and back off, thats the key. Warner is smart. He is a solid quarterback, but much like Drew, when he gets rattled and feels like HE has to win the game, he starts forcing throws and makes mistakes.

Warner is not nearly as accurate as Brees, but I think you game plan for a quarterback that has similar strengths to Drew. Warner reads defenses well, is calm in the pocket, and has great vision. But he has the tendancy to force throws when he gets too confident or when he's playing from behind.

When Warner has a bad game...it's really bad. But when he gets on a roll watch out.

The Cards have plenty of offensive weapons, especially at WR. The defense MUST get pressure with the front four and produce turnovers to win this game. We need to score first and stay on top.

Show blitz and bring it early on, jam the receivers at the line of scrimmage and keep their timing off. We can't blitz much from the middle because vacating a spot in the middle went very badly for GB, hopefully we can get pressure from the outside blitz. But most important is to get the pressure up front in the middle, don't give Warner a chance to step up in the pocket. If we do well with the rush we should own the Cardinals.

Well, we can't let Warner pick us apart. Obviously pick our spots. I'm not sure if we want to blitz as often as we did in the Giants game, for instance. Blitz more when/if they get to red-zone, take our chances there.

Blitz or no blitz if our front 4 can't get pressure every play by themselves we are going to be giving up yards.

Re: The Burning Question??

The blitzing needs to be done in spurts early on until the Saints build up at least a two score lead. Once the Cards abandon the run and turn almost fully to the passing game then the blitz can be brought with 6, 7, or even sometimes 8 in the box.

As long as the CBs and safeties can hang for a good 2-3 seconds man-to-man then the blitzes will be successful because we won't have to worry about the run as much, if at all.

Re: The Burning Question??

blitzing is much more efficient and effective when we know what they are doing

if we get a lead they will pass......thats when we should blitz

without grant and possibly mccray we will need to stack that side a little more to create enough pressure from warners front side

that way will smith will not get double teamed on the back side

we cant afford to have ellis and smith getting double teamed all game

harper is very fast off the edge and safety blitzes will be plentiful i think

the cardinals do not throw it to their TEs that much so blitzing harper will not effect our pass defense

the cardinals like to run double moves a lot.....the key will be preventing them from doing that by getting pressure to warner quickly

we cant allow him to sit back because he is as good as anybody when he has time to throw....and they have no problem max protecting with 2-WR routes because one of them will get open

Re: The Burning Question??

All good points and thanks..I would like to see an early all out blitz strip the ball..and take it to the house...Talk about rattle Warner...then D.Sharp gets a pick six from a rattled Warner...Y'all know we are capable of this..lets make it happen..
