Sore knees keep Edwards, Williams from practicing
By CHIP SCOGGINS, Star Tribune
Their status for the Saints game is unclear, but it's apparent half of the defensive line won't be 100 percent. Ray Edwards was not the Vikings only defensive lineman listed on the injury report Wednesday. Like Edwards, All-Pro defensive tackle Kevin Williams also did not practice after suffering a knee injury in Sunday's 34-3 victory against the Dallas Cowboys. Their status for Sunday's NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints is unclear, but it's obviously not a good sign for the Vikings that half of their starting line is hurting. Edwards suffered a sprained right knee in the third quarter after turning in what he described as the best game of his career. He set a team playoff record with three sacks while adding eight tackles, two tackles for loss, five quarterback hurries and a forced fumble. "I just felt good," he said. "We have the best fans in the NFL. They made a lot of noise for us and made them use a silent count. It felt great." The knee injury put a damper on his performance. Edwards said he has been receiving treatment practically around-the-clock since the game. "Just trying to stay on top of it," he said. "Just keep the swelling down." That's about as much as Edwards offered when asked about his knee Wednesday. Edwards answered "it's good" every time and referred questions to coach Brad Childress. Harvin isn't practicing either. I'm sure he'll play but it looks like both teams will have a few beat up starters.

Re: Sore knees keep Edwards, Williams from practicing
I'm sure Edwards will be able to play and may split time with Robison, who is a great pass rusher, replacing Pat Williams in passing situations and has managed to get 4.5 sack on such limited playing time and at DT too. His real position is DE and he's very mobile with a good burst. Downside he's a little over aggressive and doesn't run support as well as Edwards.
So if Edwards doesn't go I imagine running to the right will be popular for the Saints. |
