Superstition

I have to share this one. I almost got a haircut last Saturday morning before the game, but decided against it at the last minute. I’m glad I did. Now I’m (happily) looking like Shaggy and in danger of being much worse by February 7th!

Re: Superstition

I've got an LSU 2003 National Champions mug that I've been drinking water out of every day since LSU's first game of the season. LSU kept winning, the Saints kept winning. It had the power to help them win games. The mug wasn't getting washed! Finally, LSU lost one, but the Saints kept on going. Even through the bad ends to both of their seasons, it's been in continuous use. Now, I'm not washing it until the Saints season is over. Feb 8th SHOULD be the earliest day to wash it.

(I know it's silly and has ZERO outcome on any game, but if it ain't broke...)

Here's a silly superstition for you guys. After the first game of the season, I stopped at a local convenience store for a pack of smokes. Someone had snatched my lighter, so I bought a Saints' lighter while I was there. I've used it ever since and the Saints' kept winning. If anyone ever asked to borrow my lighter, I would say "They're undefeated. Don't jinx it." The early part of the week vs. the Cowboys, I lost it. I couldn't find it anywhere. The Saints' lost. I still hadn't found it the next week for the Tampa game. The Saints' lost. Still couldn't find it for the Panthers game. The Saints' lost. I got in my car during the early last week before the Cards' game. I looked down at my passenger seat, and there it was. We all know what happened in that game. I haven't lost sight of this lighter since.

Here's another one.....On the night of the Dallas game, I was headed to a family X mas party. I'd left my Saints hat sitting on the sidebar at home. My sister-in-law was living with us at the time and picked it up to do something "special" for me. She lost it. Saints lost that game and the next two. It took me that long to a get new hat but I received it just in time for the Cards game. I sleep with my new hat now.

A lot of my superstition has gone to the wayside after the Cowboys game. I still follow the rituals that are fun (wearing shorts in single-digit weather not so fun).

Re: Superstition

I have to say that my biggest charm has been my daughter. She was born at the end of Dec last year(2008). I started watching games this year with her sitting on my knee. She learned to throw her arms up to signal Touchdown on cue pretty quickly. We have not lost a game when she was sitting on my knee for the opening kick. She missed all of the Dallas game (wife went to visit her folks out of town) and was only there for second half of the TB and Carolina games. I made sure she was back on my knee to see the kickoff of the Cards game though. She'll be there at 3:30 on Sunday (I'm on the West Coast).

I have too many rituals and superstitions to say any one of them is the one. So, I'll just keep using them until the off season.
