Dolphins coaches were upset with the way veteran linebacker Junior Seau and veteran safety Sammy Knight played last week against the Texans, even though they combined for 15 tackles. Some coaches were calling other coaches around the league expressing their disappointment. "They couldn't believe how bad they were," said one coach. We hate to say we told you so, but we told you so. The Dolphins had a fast, active defense last year, but the signing of the two veterans slows that unit down, which showed up against the Texans. If Seau and Knight don't get it together, the Dolphins could be in big trouble on defense. Heading to New York to play the Jets is not an easy place to try and turn it around.

Carr's 78-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Corey Bradford was especially telling. The Dolphins were playing a cover-three zone, which puts one safety close to the line of scrimmage and another deep, as Bradford ran an inside slant route.

Patrick Surtain, a Pro Bowl cornerback in 2002, broke to the ball late and took a poor angle on Bradford. Surtain raised his hands in an attempt at an interception, but he appeared to lose track of the football and surrendered a short completion.

Two defenders then missed tackles, including strong safety Sammy Knight, as Bradford streaked down the field for the longest touchdown pass surrendered by the Dolphins since the Buffalo Bills' Eric Moulds scored on an 80-yard reception in the 10th game of the 2001 season.
