So where do we go in the draft?
 

I know that everyone is waiting in anticipation for the Superbowl. I also know that this is somewhat out of place, especially with the Saints fans so excited about playing and aren't really even worrying about the draft right now. The thing is we have 2 weeks of waiting to do in anticipation and I feel like this would be a good conversation to have. So where do we go in round 1 and 2? I'm guessing its either gonna be a d-lineman or a outside linebacker. In my opinion, the Saints are only a few guys away from not only being an opportunistic defense but also a complete defense that can hold the other teams yardage down along with the turnovers.

Honestly we could use depth/competition at any DL or LB position. I say best player available at any of those.

We are not even close to where we really need to be on D. But I say we go with best available and hope that person is a D player.

As a BAMA fan I'd welcome him, but doubt he falls that far and not sure if we want to trade up for a DT when we need a DE more.

We do need a DT, but not that big fat tub of goo.

BPA at DT, DE, SLB, WLB, OT, RB (scat back), and QB in about that order
would be fine with me.

I'm not the draftnic a lot of you guys are, but I like the idea of BPA anywhere on defense really.

Will not get into a big debate about this, but you should go by performance/stats rather than physical appearance. He didn't seem like a fat tub of goo when he blocked 2 TN punts, also I would ask all the SEC linemen he went against if they agree with your assement.

I will agree we have bigger needs than DT, but still...Ellis and Cody with Smith and McCray on the outside is a mean combo.

Personally I'd like to go DE or OLB. Hoping Arnioux (sp?) steps up this year after being on IR.

After watching our Coach pick folks like Colston from the Draft, I have complete Faith in his decisions. Can't wait.

Oh I think we are pretty close. The thing about defense, is teams take advantages of your weaknesses. Thats what teams do to us, which is why we give up so many yards. We have the MLB in Vilma. I believe our corners are pretty damn good. Sharper is good(though getting older). Will Smith is a force. Ellis is a force. Getting another strong DE or DT could consolidate the line, and allow Smith and Ellis to drive to the QB better. What we did to Favre could go from him getting the ball off then taking a shot, to him taking a shot before or after he releases the ball consistently. I think McCray(even on the run) has done pretty well. Not sure if hes the starting DE of our future though, only time will tell. DT and OLB or my favorite choices. Having someone next to Ellis would be a massive improvement to the defense, and could turn us into a team that can easily get pressure with just its front 4.

I don't think Cody fits what the Saints do very well. Jared Odrick or Brian Price.

heres the thing about terrance cody

he is huge...he is a bull

you can stand him up but you will never move him

3 teams in our conference are run first teams....which means 6 of the 16 games we play every year we are going up against run first teams...terrance cody is very dominant against the run

not to mention the other teams from around the league that we play that run the ball to control the clock and keep the ball away from us

on top of that, he can occupy more than 1 blocker at a time and create gaps for our LBs to blitz through.....one thing we do a lot is blitz....with a defensive lineman that controls the line of scrimmage that would allow a lot more 1 on 1 matchups with our DEs, sedrick ellis, and our LBs

i dont want a small quick DT....i dont want a DE because we have hargrove, grant, mccray, and smith......but ellis is not a NT and is much better suited to play the 3 tech.......with terrance cody he wouldnt have to play NT ever.....cody could play 1st and 2nd down, then we could put in hargrove, ayodele or clancy on passing downs
