President Obama in Saints' corner

Quote:

In an interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer, she asked President Barack Obama to pick between the Colts and the Saints in the Super Bowlhttp://images.intellitxt.com/ast/adTypes/2_bing.gif.
RELATED STORIES

"You know, I think both teams are terrific. I guess I am rooting a little bit for the Saints as the underdog, partly just because when I think about what's happened in New Orleans over the last several years and how much that team means to them. You know, I'm pretty sympathetic.”
Kardashian sets bowl bet straight

Kim Kardashian, who's had an on-again, off-again romance with New Orleans Saints player Reggie Bush -- at last report, it's still "on" -- is fighting off reports that she'd marry him if his team beats the Colts in the Super Bowl.
From her blog at Kim Kardashian official web site ? photos, blog, news, bio "There is a story going around saying I made a bet that Reggie would propose if The Saints won the Superbowl.
"This is not true. I never made any kind of bet. A radio interviewer asked what I dreamed for in 2010 and I was hesitant and thinking about it and they said what about a ring. I said yes, a Superbowl ring for Reggie. Then they said that if he gets a Superbowl ring, I get an engagement ring, and I said 'ok deal!' LOL.
"This was taken way out of context by a lot of media outlets, who are saying I made a bet with Reggie, which I didn't. In NO way is that a bet I made with Reggie! If you listen to the interview you can hear exactly what I said! It bugs me how people twist stories when the interview is right there to hear for yourself. I just wanted to clear that up!"
Super Bowl coin traveled on Shuttle

A specially minted silver coin that's survived zero gravity will fall to the ground to start the Super Bowl.
And if you don't think the coin flip is all that important, keep in mind that not only will it be a point for many bets on the game, but the Saints, with the luck of a coin flip, took the ball in an overtime battle to win the NFC Championship.
Several astronauts will deliver the coin at 10 a.m. Wednesday to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, NASA reports.
The coin was carried on the 11-day journey of space shuttle Atlantis that ended Nov. 27.
The astronauts also will deliver a football that went on the space mission. The names of every member of the Hall of Fame were inscribed on the ball. That includes several from the former Baltimore Colts but only one member of the Indianapolis Colts: Eric Dickerson, who was on the team from 1987 to 1991.

I do not know about everyone else but i am getting pretty tired of the Katrina sympathy vote. We F&$^ing earned our place at the table.

Also Obama favoring the Saints to win does not give me warm and fuzzys.

Past Obama Picks:
Tim Geithner
Cash for Clunkers
Van Jones..

Etc...

Nothing political about my opinion, but NO THANKS Obama. Don't need a Bear's fan on our bandwagon.

I'm with you, SirPsychoSexy! No thanks, Obama! Stick with yo' Bears. We know how you are!

Hey, all kinds of fans are taking side right now and there are only two teams left to choose from.

C'mon the past 43 Super Bowls I've picked a team I wanted to win.

So what the heck is this with the "No don't cheer for us Obama!!" talk. I think it's awesome, and you can expect a lot more now that we're here.

It beats the heck out of being the punchline on the Tonight Show monologue. Believe me, that used to happen a lot. Many of you would have hated Johnny Carson...

ENJOY THIS!

Coming from a Colts fan, I would completely agree with you there. The Saints earned their right, and winners should be chosen based on the merits of the team and not because of a "feel-good" sympathy story.

Along the same lines, I was a little bit off-put that Colts WR Pierre Garcon was drumming up his Haitian background in light of the tragic earthquakes.

Unfortunately it will be the "stroyline" of the game. Katrina and Garcon's connection to Haiti. We are going to be blasted about it 24/7 by the pundits.

Well, you know, our Jonathan Vilma has that Haiti connection, too!

Didn't know that, but I will probably hear it 20x over the two weeks. I don't mind an interview or two from Vilma or Garcon or from any of the Saints about their role in helping bring back NOLA, but I just have the feeling it will be more about that than discussing the actual game.

I honestly believe that you guys deserve so much more credit than what will be reported for the football you guys are playing now. But, hey, that's just the Mainstream media.

JoanieNTX 01-26-2010 01:32 PM

Re: President Obama in Saints' corner

Yeah, well the Saints and the Mainstream media don't mix well....ugh. They have never been too kind to us, and I'm sure we don't expect them to start now. They will go on with their predictions, giving the Colts the edge....throw us a bone every so often, but we don't care. It will be business as usual for the Saints. We've done it without their blessings so far!

Re: President Obama in Saints' corner

Amen, Neugey! That has been MY slogan all year. YES, YOU CAN! I say that to Drew all the time...he just doesn't hear me! And PT, and Reggie, and the defense, and the O-line, and Hartley....etc., etc., etc.! When I'm repeating "YES, YOU CAN" to them over and over, there's no place for the negative to come in. Try it! After all.....the only vibes I want them to get are positive ones!

Thanks Barry, but no thanks. Your last favored pick (Coakley) didnt work out so good. All we need from you is that phone call after the game congratulating Brees on the win. Other than that, try acting like a President and support both teams like any president with class would do.

B_Dub_Saint 01-26-2010 04:15 PM

Obama is pulling for the Saints in the SB!

On ESPN's Around the Horn Dianne Sawyer interviewed the president and he said he will be pulling for the Saints to win.

Then Bill Plaschie, or how ever you spell it, started hating on us and Jay Mariotti tore into his ass.

Thats bad ass our president is pulling for us.

WHO DAT!!!!!

Re: Obama is pulling for the Saints in the SB!

Yeah, and if we win, he'll announce that he's a Saints fan after being a Bears fan. Just like he did last year with the Steelers.

Loser.

I despise Obama and Kardashian. Of all the people pulling for us, why them?? LAME!

And wasn't he a Steelers fan last year??

That is kinda cool. Unfortunately he didn't do too well in his March Madness bracket last year, but he probably knows more about sports that the average politician. & don't forget, he was in that commercial with Brees.

Damn, Oh well, I guess its proof positive that I'm a die-hard fan. I'll still root for the Saints anyway.

Well lets see if you want to drag politics into, well "don't" even start. Obama is favoring The Saints and Pres. Bush Sr. was sitting with Mr. Benson at the Vikes game. Come game day I could care less what political party you support if your with The Saints your with me.

I'll take most anyone's support we can get.

I like the prez. Maybe not some of the things he has done but.... he isn't a Dallas fan (think on that one!!)

Re: Obama is pulling for the Saints in the SB!

I'll take his support over a windbag like Limbaugh.

PLUS - We are a feel good story. Not just because of Katrina & I know some people are getting sick of that particular thread, but becuse we have suffered so long.

I have been waiting for 30 years for this & I am going to enjoy it!!

Re: President Obama in Saints' corner

I usually find myself supporting the NFC team in The SB. The Cowboys and a few other teams are probably the exception. So it does not surprise me that The Pres would support another NFC team since Da Bears are in the same conference. The real question is who Brett Favre is backing, hopefully they will let him out of Psychotherapy long enough to watch the game.

Re: President Obama in Saints' corner

This whole subject doesn't really concern me. People will root for, whoever they root for, and for whatever reason. I have no control over that. I voted for Obama, so I have no problem with him returning the favor. Now if it was W. Bush? I would be most offended.....
