Joe Horn Interview

Quote:

"I never sat in the stands before, but I was up there with the fans, and they were just stunned to see me," Horn said, telling FanHouse that he bought his own ticket to watch his old team clobber the Cardinals. "I wanted to sit in the nose-bleed section. I wanted to be with the rowdy of the rowdies, and I also wanted to be me, and that's exactly what I was. The 50 to 100 people who got the autographs and the hugs from me, they got them, and they enjoyed themselves, and I enjoyed myself.

"But they kept asking me throughout the game, 'Joe, we love it that you're up here with us, sharing your hot dogs, eating popcorn with us, enjoying the game with us, but why aren't you down on the sidelines right now?'
Quote:

"I've never mentioned any of this before, but I'll do it now," Horn told FanHouse, recalling a time in 2005, when Hurricane Katrina forced the Saints to practice and play in San Antonio. Horn had two visitors back then. One was the late Gene Upshaw, the head of the NFL Players Association, and the other was Paul Tagliabue, the league's commissioner. They approached Horn, because he was the Saints' undisputed leader, consummate professional and noted straight-shooter.

When they asked Horn the question of the moment, they had the look of two executives on the edge of a decision. What decision?

They didn't know.

That's why Horn became huge.

"They pulled me to the side, and they said these words to me, and this is something that a lot of fans will be surprised to hear," Horn said, adding: "They asked me, 'Joe, how do you feel about the team staying in San Antonio or going back to New Orleans?' And I looked at both of them, and I said, 'I don't think it's fair for the fans who live and die for the Saints to have to rebuild that city alone. I think we should go back and help them rebuild that city.' This was before anybody else came to the Saints (like Brees and Bush) or any new coach brought in his program (like Payton).

"The next morning, I woke up and watched ESPN and the Saints were being awarded back to New Orleans. That made me happy. "

I would take this whole "interview" with a huge grain of salt.

Joe Horn almost single-handedly responsible for the Saints not leaving the Crescent City. Right!

I wonder if the Packers will have Brett on thier sidelines the next time they go to the NFC Championship game. Things get all discombobulated when you sign with your teams rival. Duece went out like a champ and was rewarded for it.

I agree. When a bunch of rich owners get their minds on moving a team they do it, end of story. That exchange of words probably did happen but I doubt it changed their minds in any way. At most they were worried about the media pooh-storm that would've happened when they abandoned New Orleans in its time of need.

Coach Payton said that the NFC championship was for all of the players and coaches who were not present in the post-game.

43 years, can't have everybody down on the sidelines.

I like Joe too, but I find this story hard to believe. The Commish, and the owners, don't care what the players think, when it comes to franchise money. Love ya Joe, but shut up. Please.

Re: Joe Horn Interview

Am I remembering things wrong, or didn't Joe have a choice of taking a pay cut, and staying with the team, but he instead signed with our mortal enemies, the Falcons? He goes there, has two terrible seasons, tries out for other teams, but no one wants him, and NOW, that the team is going to the superbowl, he wants to be recognized as a Saint? I have no problem with that Joe. All I want is a public apology, for basically turning your back on us, and going to one of our biggest rivals. You do that, then you can retire as a Saint, but in my mind, YOU left us, not the other way around.

Joe Horn threw everyone under the bus as he left NO for Atlanta. Two consecutive seasons hobbled by a persistent serious groin injury and he demanded #1 money despite not being healthy enough to sign a contract. The Saints tried to do right by him give the circumstances, and...

It is all about Joe.

Notice that he makes his home in Atlanta. Not NO. How gullible do you think he thinks we are. Clearly the author of the piece was born yesterday.

I don't completely remember the circumstances but I don't think him and SP saw eye to eye at all. And I don't think that Payton wanted him back under any salary.

I don't blame any player for moving and raking in the cash. Heck, as much of a diehard Saints fan that I am you can go ahead a pay me $1m and I'll play for the stinking Falclowns. I don't have a problem with that.

He was the best receiver the Saints had for a number of years. That's what I'll remember him for.

Joe is ignored because of how he chose to run his mouth after leaving. He should have shut up. Joe had a few good seasons here, but I also remember him 2-3 times holding out for more money. I take what he says with a grain of salt.

"Joe I like to blow my own Horn"..is just bitter..i never cared for his antics..shut up and play the game...can you say MEDIA WH**E

Re: Joe Horn Interview

oh pleaseeeeeeeee!
Joe blowya Horn has already admitted that he had an offer to stay with the Saints but he wanted mo money and the front office said No sorry. So he left in a huff with a '"i'll show you attitude" but he never did jack ^%*# and now that his career is over he wants to be embraced by the Saints and be recognized like Deuce during this historic Super Bowl run.
And now to come up with this crap as if 'Joe Horn' is the sole reason the Saints didn't leave New Orleans, unbelievable. I think Joe has a future in politics.

Man, I really liked Joe when he got traded to ATL or he signed with them I kind of felt it was stupid and he could have played his last 2 yrs with us but it happened and I think as time has passed I'm alot happier Duece was there on the sidelines..

This story I dont know if I belive it sounds suspect

dwiley21 01-27-2010 07:13 PM

Re: Joe Horn Interview

Duece was a true leader. Never caused a problem. Joe was always in the middle of something. He was a good receiver in his time, but when the business aspect came around he took his ball and ran to ATL (WHERE HE STILL LIVES!!!) So NO JOE you don't get to be on the sideline...You don't get to lead the team on the field....and you don't get a free pass to Miami.

He was on Mike and Mike earlier. he said.pretty much the same thing..Except that he was at the NFC championship game ..so that kinda throws a wrench in this story..i dunno

If you loved New Orleans like you say you do. You wouldnt have went to the Falcons.

Re: Joe Horn Interview

Thanks Joe for what you gave to the saints in your prime.
When you put on that Falcons Jersey, im sorry.. i know it's a business and all but there were probably a few other teams that could have signed you, i don't buy it that Falcons were the best offer on the table or the only offer on the table..

You were a Saint player and a favorite for a while and you love New Orleans, thats all i care about from you, the rest of your history is like a Black dot in the back of my thoughts.
With that said, if Saints win this bowl i don't think you should get a ring, i think you should however go and congratulate those responsible for it like a man instead of looking for accolades from fans to petition for you to get something because Joe think's he's entitled.

I liked Joe Horn, until he put on a Falcon's jersey. Then, he no longer mattered to me.

:???:

The way I see it, it's the same feelings Green Bay had for Brett Favre when he signed with the Vikings.

But that's just me...

Joe was great but the difference in him and Deuce is Deuce didn't run off to the Falcons for more money. He could have left and gone anywhere except a rival and no harm no foul. But not only did he sign with a rival, but the falcons?? That pretty much sealed it with SP I'm sure.

Well to be honest Deuce didn't have the opportunity. I'm pretty sure he would have accepted a paycheck from the Falclowns if they had offered it. Dirty money is still money. :D
