Town of Broussard: Bars can open for Super Bowl XLIV in honor of New Orleans Saints

The bars in the town of Broussard, about 65 miles west of Baton Rouge, will be allowed to open for eight hours on Super Bowl Sunday in honor of the New Orleans Saints' appearance in the championship game.


Mayor Charles Langlinais says normally the bars are not able to open at all on Sundays. But on Feb. 7, bars in the town will be open from 2:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m.
Langlinais says he doesn't expect all of the town's bars to open. Each business must get a letter from the city authorizing them to open on Feb. 7, which he says the city will provide for free. But bars also must get a special permit from the state and hire security officers to patrol both inside and outside the business.
All together, he says those costs could run several hundred dollars, which some bars may find too expensive.
