Here's a brain twister....
Archie Manning drafted by the Saints. Has a son named Peyton. Mora coaches the Saints. Peyton hangs out with the team, while he's in High School, and even goes to training camp with the team, a couple of years.
Mora leaves the Saints, goes to the Colts. Drafts a QB....... Peyton Manning. Convinces Bill Polian, to take Manning. Mora fired by the Colts, and Peyton takes the Colts to their second superbowl appearance versus.... the Saints.... Wow. Just think, had Mora not coached the Saints, and not met Peyton, maybe the Colts don't draft him. There is ALOT connecting these two teams. Seriously. |
Re: Here's a brain twister....
Ironic, aint it.

Re: Here's a brain twister....
Mora=Idiot Most Ex-Marines that I have know are narrow minded.

Re: Here's a brain twister....
I like Mora. I will never forget what he did for this franchise, in the late eighties. Now, what I didn't like, was his, "get and early lead, and then let the defense win the game" attitude. In every play off game, he ever coached, he always played "not to lose", not "to win". Great regular season coach, but NOT a post season coach.
He did the same thing in Indy. |

...oh you GOT to be kidding me... The Colts drafted Peyton because they finished the 1997 season 3-13, good enough to get them the 1st pick in the 1998 draft, and at QB, they started a very ineffective 34 year old Jim Harbaugh who went 2-9, and finished the season with Paul Justin and Kelley Holocomb who combined went 1-4. Peyton was the consensus best QB in that draft, even if ESPN made its best effort to create a controversy between Manning and Leaf. That's why the Colts drafted Peyton. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with Mora coaching the Saints and meeting Peyton before he even attended Tennessee. |
Re: Here's a brain twister....
You must be high bro. Seriously. You don't think, that with the Leaf controversy involved, that Mora's input on Manning didn't have ANYTHING to do with that decision? He only watched this kid grow up as a football player, right in front of his own eyes.
Jim Mora Jr. was on staff with Mora when all this was going on, and he said today on NFL Network, that he used to tell the press, during those training camps, that Peyton had a stronger arm, than any of their QBs at the time. You have to admit, that's one hell of a coincidence, that Mora just happened to be the coach, when that QB decision was made. |

The Saints must've had about 32 coaches and 32 GM's on their payroll back when Peyton was working out at the Saints' facility, because there wasn't one team in that draft that wouldn't have taken Peyton first. I agree that it is ironic that Mora was in Indy when Peyton became availabe in the draft and it was ironic that they just happened to have the #1 pick, but I think they would have picked Peyton even if Mutt was GM and Jeff was head coach. |
Re: Here's a brain twister....
I will agree to disagree with you guys.... And being high is alright.... Didn't mean it as an insult at all...

Re: Here's a brain twister....
Welcome to the forum, Tjay1.
I like Mora. He was a good coach. I'll always remember him for his post game rants though! Those were the best! :D |

Re: Here's a brain twister....
Coach Mora was on the phone with NFL Network today, and Jim Jr. said that one of his biggest pet peeves, was not being remembered for bringing two franchises up from the ashes, but being remembered for his post game rants... Only one person to blame for that really.... I like Jim though. Drove me crazy at times back then, but water under the bridge now.

It's early, and I'm bored again...so...keeping in mind that I'm an Ole Miss fan and was a Fourcade fan... I remember back during the days when they had the strike, and then Fourcade entered the scene, then Fourcade stuck with the team, then Fourcade beat Hebert out for the starting job, then Hebert left for Atlanta leaving us only with Fourcade, then we went out and mortgaged the farm for Steve Walsh, then Mora removed Fourcade as starter and inserted Walsh, and then I called his weekly show and asked him this... Me: "Coach Mora, I have a few questions if you don't mind?" Coach: "OK." Me: "Who has the better arm between Fourcade and Walsh?" Coach: "Blah, blah, blah....Fourcade." Me: "Who is the more mobile QB of the two?" Coach: "Blah, blah, blah...Fourcade." Me: "Who presently knows our system better of the two." Coach: "Blah, blah, blah...Fourcade." Me: "Then why in the hell are you playing Walsh right now?" Coach: "You $%$#$%^%$. You don't know &*%$ about %$&^$ and you %$^&4# come here and &&^%%$& tell me this Y&^%^&?" |
Re: Here's a brain twister....
Odd bit of trivia for you, completely off the posted topic, but related to what Saint_LB was saying.
Hebert & Fourcade were the opposing quarterbacks in the 1976/77 school year Louisiana High School Football Championship game. Hebert for South Lafourche, and Fourcade for Archbishop Shaw. South won the game, taking their second (and last!) State Title. |
