No disrespect drew, but.....

Tracy Porter is the MVP of that game. The pick 6 changed the game.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

Tracy Porter Garret Hartley. I would agree

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

COOL BREES!

They'd not have likely won with any other QB.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

I agree, but the colts were driving for the tie, and that ended the game. Porter should have been MVP because of it.

Yo man 32-39, and one of those was thrown into the ground purposely. Drew might deserve it, but yeah the whole D might too

The 12th Man deserves it too.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

Could even make a case for Vilma. The way he kept checking out of defenses, and putting guys in the right spots was amazing.

Play of the game: Porter's Pick 6
Most valuable player: Brees. Runner up: Vilma.

What a great team effort though by all the players. But Brees and Vilma are the ones they can't live without.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

I want to make this clear. I am not saying Brees was not amazing, but the Porter play ended things.

Pierre Thomas may not be in the running for MVP, but he certainly made some major contributions to this win.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

Many players had their moments. But Drew deserves it for what he did not only in this game, but for his career with the Saints. He is our MVP of all time IMO.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

One play does not an MVP make. Drew had the best complete GAME.

Vilma was awesome in the second half.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

So one of the best performances in nfl history by a quarterback in the superbowl should be overshadowed by 1 interception by Porter? Porter played awesome, the whole defense played awesome. Porter made an awesome play. Without Drew Brees' performance though that interception wouldn't have matter. How exactly do you think the game would have went if Aaron Brooks was the QB? Not trying to sound negative on Porter in any way, but its kind of obvious to me who the MVP was.

Now thats a very very scary thought. We probably would have seen atleast one O-line player catch a pass, 8 fumbles and big olŽI-just-f***ed-the-neighbours-cat kinda smile.

whodatsaintsfan26 02-08-2010 06:54 AM

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

The comment was not to be negative. The fact is that Porter's pick 6 changed the entire game. He did not have one big play. The guy had 4 tackles, 1 pass defended, and held Reggie Wayne to 46 yards receiving. Drew was the MVP of the playoffs no doubt. The offense has been scoring all year, but the defense just held the Colts offense to 17 points and he was a huge reason for that.

ROFLMAO. We just won the Super Bowl and instead of letting it soak in, people are on here complaining about who got MVP?
Mon Dieu!

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

We were up 24-17 when Porter made that pick. Now that was certainly the dagger in the heart, but Drew was well deserving. Vilma also had a great game on defense. Can't give everyone awards but Devery caught everything throw his way and our running backs did great too.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

MVP = Most valuable Player. Not Most valuable Play.

Replace any one (but one) on the team and do we still win? probably.
Replace Brees and do we win? Probably not.
Replace Sean Payton do we win? Probably not.

Arguably may people played and had plays that sculpted the victory. Since it is a toss up in some peoples eyes I say it should have gone to Drew just based on the fact he got screwed out of League MVP.

All very good points. Watching the second half of the game over again this morning I am inclined to say that Drew was the MVP of that game. He was flawless in the second half, and was certainly deserving of the award. I am still putting in my two cents for Porter, but that is a win-win either way.

Good deabte. We all agree many Saints were major ,had that big play.

Porter, yeah, that intecept was a turning point.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

WHO DAT?

Sorry man, but I gotta disagree with you on this one. I know you didn't mean to disrespect Drew, and I don't think you did, but Porter didn't deserve the MVP.

Drew Brees deservingly won the award, by tying the record for completions in a Super Bowl game. I think its safe to say he would have broken the record too if Porter hadn't picked off the pass. THANK GOD HE DID! When the Saints scored the 2 pt. conversion, there was 5:42 left to play.

I don't think you can give the award based on one play, I mean a lot of guys made big plays throughout the game, Moore with the catch, Vilma, Porter etc. Thats what it takes to be the champs. People stepping up, but Brees, played AWESOME. Trust me I hate it when qb's get the awards, but I'm glad its our guy. HAHA!

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

Also, I know its not possible, but if only you could give the MVP to a coach, I think the guy who seriously deserves it, is the guy who has had a lot of people say not so nice things about him a lot of the time. SEAN PAYTON! What a great game that guy called, the onside kick, going for it on 4th down to keep Peyton away from the endzone, THE CHALLENGE, I mean damn. I loved it all.

The one thing I didn't like was the play call on the 4th down, I was screaming at the tv. I got over it in a hurry though and then took my rightful place right back on the sofa. THAT'S WHY HE'S THE COACH!!!!

YOU DA MAN SEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WAY TO GO SAINTS!

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

I think the MVP could have gone to a number of players last night. I don't have a problem with Brees getting it. It was well deserved. I think that Hartley however needs a very honorable mention. Our first possessions looked very dismal. It was looking grim. Someone in the chat room last night even threw in the towel when it was 10 - 0. Hartley gave us hope and kept our and the team's spirits alive in a very bleak situation. I think he is not getting near the credit that he deserves for this game. This kid is what, 23 years old? Can you imagine the pressure that was on him? And he nailed three spectacular kicks, getting into the Superbowl record books. I think without those three kicks to keep the game alive and the spirits high, we have a whole different game.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

I agree but mainly because, well, Drew is our MVP. That is a no brainer. He doesn't NEED to be given the trophy to be our MVP. He just is. So I think Porter should have gotten the trophy. Brees doesn't need a MVP trophy. He is a walking MVP trophy.

Say what you will. I watched the game again last night. The Onside recovery took the wind out of their sails and left them with that "WTF just happened" look.

The OS kick was the turning point.

The interception sealed the deal.

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

No offense to any of you but there are maybe 2-3 QBs in the league who could have got the Saints to the SB.

Plenty of players on your defense could be swapped out with similar results but there is no real replacement for Drew Brees.

Aside from that, he played an almost flawless game, which is incredible considering it was his first SB

Re: No disrespect drew, but.....

It was a team effort in the end.

The MVP goes to everyone.

Little things by everyone contributed to big time plays.
