I didn't know what hit me. How could I? I've never experienced it before after all. I was watching Sean Payton hold the Lombardi Trophy in the air after the New Orleans Saints won Super Bowl XLIV.
I was one of the millions of members of the Who Dat Nation who stared in awe at that moment. And I couldn't even begin to express what I felt. The New Orleans Saints are the Super Bowl Champions! As Tracy Porter jumped Peyton Manning's pass to Reggie Wayne and ran the ball back 74 yards to all but clinch the Saints first-ever Super Bowl win, my house erupted, as did countless numbers of bars and homes across the country. There was jumping, hugging and screaming - all while keeping an eye out to make sure we didn't miss a penalty flag (what can I say, I've been used to disappointment). The New Orleans Saints are the world champions! I was paralyzed as it happened. The clock ran out. Payton was given a Gatorade shower. Tears welled up, and it just got worse when Drew Brees was shown holding his son, in a moment that no father - or soon to be father - could watch without feeling emotional.
