Alverson: Super Bowl champion 'Ain'ts' put rival Falcons to shame
2010-02-11 By Trey Alverson (- EDITED TO NOT REPLICATE ARTICLE ENTIRTY, Please click link below to read full story, these are Key notes from the story.. ) So the Saints are Super Bowl champions... I have to hand it to the 'Who Dats,' they earned it. Drew Brees out-dueled Peyton Manning in the big game. Reggie Bush was spectacular. Tracy Porter's interception and touchdown was a thing of beauty. Since the Superdome became ground zero for Hurricane Katrina's unspeakable devastation four and a half years ago, it has been near impossible to cheer against the Saints. In the aftermath of the storm, the Saints have all but replaced the Dallas Cowboys as "America's Team." I can't say I'm upset that the Saints won, but as a devout Atlanta sports fan, it is a little hard to swallow. Outside of that 1998 NFC title, all we die-hard Falcons fans ever had to hang our hats on was the fact that the Saints and Bucs faithful were worse off than us. The Falcons have 45 wins against the Saints -- that's 17 more than Atlanta has logged against any other team. The Falcons entered the league in 1966, one year before the Saints. Since then, Atlanta has consistently abused its division rival in New Orleans like a whipping boy. Atlanta made a habit out of snatching up the Saints' best players in the free agent market, like Bobby Hebert, Craig "Ironhead" Heyward and Morten Anderson. When the Bucs won the Super Bowl in 2002, both Falcons and Saints fans felt sick to their stomachs. And now, the team once known as "The Aints' is parading the Lombardi Trophy down Bourbon Street. That leaves the Falcons as the south's most historically downtrodden football franchise. I love it that the Falcons are now the laughing stock of our division. The Panthers and Bucs were in the Super Bowl just a few years ago. When was the last time Atlanta made it to a Super Bowl?? The 90's.

Great article from a team and rival of Saints and an unbiased opinion.
Falcons will come back and who, knows, maybe their SB will coming up. I am glad the Saints are not longer overall the worst in the league and over its total years of existance. Before S.Payton and coaching staff, it had gone 8-8, 9-7, and some Playoff games. I cannot remember the exact number of win-lose per season. I remember the 1-15 season. Saints have had some Playoff years, Wild Card Playoff years. During Payton and coaching staff years, Saints history had the best years so far. Saints history has had some record breaking players and some cool facts... Tom Dempsey Morten Anderson Facts-will tie in 2013 with Miami for city hosting most SB's Former player Jack DelRio became a head coach. Some FYI and some records were in SB by Saints. So now, overall, Saints is pretty good and up with other teams. Saints are not the winners of the saddest team in the NFL anymore. I do not think Atlanta is either. |

Reggie is spectacular. The Saints could send him to one side of the turf.... send the ENTIRE rest of the team to the other side of the field.... and the opposing team would quadruple cover reggie. They wouldn't even send one guy to cover you. Maybe the water boy or something. Don't judge those who are far greater than you. He is spectacular on speed compared to somewhat normal people like us. |

We will enjoy this year, but Beware the Falcons
Injuries hurt them, and they did not have our depth to recover. They drafted well the last two years, and now have a favorable schedule in '10 I see Tampa and Carolina continuing to sputter, and ATL back near the top with us next year as for any grown@ss man who gets paid to whine about his team... |

By a mile... Reggie played well in the SB, but... "spectacular"?? C'mon man - that's not a word you use to describe 10 total touches for 67yds and 0 TD's. :bng: He played his role well and he was one cog in the wheel of our dynamic offense. |

Re: Alverson: Super Bowl champion 'Ain'ts' put rival Falcons to shame
I think this coming season, we're going to have to "take NO team for granted." As the SB Champs, we're going to have a big red X on our chests for the entire NFL to aim at!

Atlanta is going to be tough this year. I think they have a good coach and QB....although we have a better coach and a better QB. We certainly don't need to over look them......teams did that to us this year.

Re: Alverson: Super Bowl champion 'Ain'ts' put rival Falcons to shame
Atlanta had alot of injuries on defense this past season, just like us. Peria Jerry, their first round pick, didn't play one game, if my memory is correct. It is a GREAT feeling, to know that we have a superbowl, and the Falcons don't. And even if they do win one in the near future, WE WON OURS FIRST. The race was fun, but we won, and you still aint gone none..... Superbowls that is...... Heh heh heh!!!
But why leave out, all the rest of the teams that have made our lives, living hells over the years..... Let's look at all the other teams, with NO superbowl wins...... 1. Vikings. Have been close, but never a winner, only a chicken dinner.... 2. Eagles. Used to be notorious for knocking us outta the post season. Also, been close many times, but still, NO SUPERBOWL WIN. 3. Falcons. Already discussed.... Heh heh 4. Panthers. Let's not forget how foul mouthed, and disrespectful, their fans have been to us over the years.... 5. Bears. Yes, they have a superbowl championship, but after all the things they have said over the years, now we have one as well. Tied up baby! So many teams to hate, so choose your own order.... |
Re: Alverson: Super Bowl champion 'Ain'ts' put rival Falcons to shame
You all are saying Atlanta had a lot of Injuries..
Did ya'll forget we also had tons of injuries? we lost players for 3-5 weeks in some cases some never returned or got injured late in the season and weren't able to play at at all in the postseason.. We still put a hurtin on teams and got passed that adversity, Atlanta failed in the "Depth" area, if they can build a layer of starter quality backups like we did, i'll then look at them as a tough team coming into the next season, otherwise i don't see much to be scared of from them.. Buc's and Carolina however could build monster, they have the advantage of having their way in the drafts where the Saints and Atlanta will be out of reach, if they play their cards right they could learn a lesson from Loomis and snag some nice cheap but treasure troves out of Free Agency. |
