Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Favre
Posted by Mike Florio on February 12, 2010 11:49 PM ET Vikings defensive end Ray Edwards says he didn't know that the Saints were pounding quarterback Brett Favre during the NFC title game. And Edwards says that, if he had known, he would have done something about it. "Taking those hit that he took [against New Orleans] I wish I would have known that they did that because I don't really watch the offense," Edwards told Paul Allen and Paul Charchian of KFAN on Friday, per Judd Zulgad of the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "I would have sure done the same thing to [Saints quarterback Drew] Brees because that wasn't right." Edwards' position marks a dramatic change in his attitude toward the team's starting quarterback for the 2009 season. Before Favre unretired for the second straight year, Edwards went on the record to say he didn't want him on the team. Now, Edwards is among those who want Favre to come back for another year. "Definitely, I think he has the ability [to return]," Edwards said. "Now OTAs and training camp, maybe not. But come the start of the season, I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be a problem with that with most guys and we'd love to have him back if that's the case." And if, as we believe, the Vikings will open the 2010 season with a return to the Superdome, Edwards might finally get a chance to do that which he would have done if he had known what the Saints were doing to Favre. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com...nge-for-favre/ |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
Can I get a "brother, please!"? So you're too busy reviewing strategy to watch the offense, but you didn't notice your star quarterback, best player, and ONLY hope for getting to your first Super Bowl constantly being helped off the field, retaped, and attended to by trainers? :^/ Plus, like the commenter said, if he COULD have sacked Drew, he WOULD have.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
I don't want to put words into his mouth...just thinking out loud here...but I'm thinking that most of the punishment suffered by Favre will never be shown in the box scores. In other words...they weren't sacks. I'm guessing he's saying he could have put in some late hits on Brees if he would've known.
I'm not saying that the Saints were dirty. I didn't think that after the game...until people started saying it. They did what they had to do to win...imagine that. Vikings didn't appear to want it as bad as the Saints, IMO. Anyway...I don't think dirty and football should ever be in the same sentence...unless you are saying something like "playing dirty is part of the game." I'm sure every one of us who played have been taught something dirty. What's the saying..."It ain't cheating unless you get caught." Man...am I rambling this morning, or what? |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
The talk of the Saints being a dirty team has really started circulating. I was trying to think back and sort it out. Is what I think of as aggressive play really dirty? I will let you know it was not a decision they made to cut Brees some slack, if they could have gotten to him...they would have.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
Well, I've never played (unless flag football in grad school counts), so I don't know. Are players really THAT oblivious to what's happening on the field when they're not in? The offensive players didn't tell him? He didn't peek up at jumbo-tron when the crowd roared? It seems implausible to me.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
I played....not at that level so I can't say. But I know I was always aware of what was going but we weren't receiving photos to review and studying, we were watching. These guys are always sitting at the back of the sideline studying with people from the D line for example...but it still doesn't diminish the fact that regardless of what was happening on offense if they could have sacked Bress 30 times they would have.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
He's a DE--- what pictures is looking at?
Is he saying he didn't give his best effort? that's why he didn't get to Brees, but would have if he had seen Brenda getting hit? or is he saying he should have intentionally tried to hurt another player after the whistle? But the biggest question is-- who cares what this 3rd place loser says about a game 3 weeks ago? |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
Who cares is correct Scott. I didn't even realize he played in that game anyway. Talk about SHUTDOWN. Try making some plays Ray Ray then you wouldn't have to make up such trash to hide your ineptitude.
He came into the game as the threat and ended it as the sheep. |

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
The Saints defense is hard-nosed, aggressive, take no prisoners. If that's dirty, then Pittsburgh, Chicago, Minnesota, and a host of other teams have dirty defenses. Ray Edwards is whining because he and his team were not tough enough to pull out a smash mouth game in the Super Dome. And because their Moses-in-the-Arctic quarterback proved to be another in a long line of Vikings choke artists. All this dirty team talk is nonsense. The Saints -- and the Vikings -- are tough minded. But the Vikings weren't hard-nosed enough to do what they needed to do in the Super Dome, and they paid the price for it.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
Do you know how long we've waited to have a defense like this again?
Sounds like jealousy to me. |

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
In other words he's not happy with the job he did against the Saints. Go figure.....lol. I do believe had they hit Brees a little late the refs would have let it slide. There were almost no flags in that game. The NFL must have told them to "let them play".

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
Maybe Edwards was napping on the sidelines but you would think he would have at least seen them drag Favre off the field. If he could have blasted Brees he would have remember he was playing on banged up knees.
Also it is the price you pay when you go with older veteran QB's like Favre and Warner, they just can't move as quick and they will get hit with an aggressive defense. How many time have we seen Warner with a concussion and Favre on the ground. |

They did get to Brees. They did hit him late a few times, including someone tackling him exactly like Hardgrove tackled Farve, and someone going to his knees, but of course no flag. If anyone has a copy of the game, look it up. Same thing happened in the Dallas game, including someone hitting Brees with the crown of the helmet right in the face. The difference is, the media has not invested any time building up "Drew Brees The Living Legend" image as they have building the legends of Farve and Manning. When asked about scoring that last TD against Dallas, Childress said "it's their job to stop us from scoring". Childress should say now " it's our job to stop them from hitting our QB". You don't like your QB getting hit? Keep a FB or TE in the backfield. |

Boo hoo hoo! Wipe your tears, Ray Edwards. Quit crying around about something that happened three weeks ago. If the offensive line would have done their job, Favre wouldn't have gotten hit. Stop your whimpering and man up for Christ sakes! F&%$#@ p*ssy! |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
seriously, now he is crying?
|
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
I'm getting so sick of hearing about the Saints being dirty. The vikings and their fans are just grasping for an excuse as to why they lost the game. They are just still bitter.... I just hope we crush them when they come to the dome next year.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
In all the years of defeat the Saints fans were never once as douchbagish as I've seen this season alone from the Dolts and VyQueens...
AND NOW THE PLAYERS TOO!? Unbelievable. I have less and less respect for those teams due to their whiney beotch fanbase and players too, evidently. |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
Didn't know, Never knew..... Just finding a tagline to get publicity. And he is important, why?
|
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
The reallity is that alot of teams are going to target us next season, especially Brees. Add a superbowl win to that, and there ya go. The target gets even bigger. I think our O-line free agents should probably be re-signed first. Just a thought.

Ray Edwards is the biggest crybaby b*tch in the league. Seriously, he's still whining around about something that happened over three weeks ago. F'n p*ssy. Get over it already! Nobody cares what you have to say, Ray. You're just taking to hear yourself make sounds.

I said in another thread, the Saints never had any other fans, teams, and even the Cease and Desist Order NFL after the Saints. When at the top, people through darts. So what. Saints won their 2009 season, NFC champs., and SB all fair and square. :bng: |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
The rest of the NFL is ticked off still, that we won it all. No matter what happened in the football universe, before this season, no matter how bad their teams were, they all still felt like they could make fun of us. Now they can't do that anymore. So they are coming up with excuses, and reasons, as to why we won, to validate their own low self esteem.
The whipping boy is dead, and the "whippers" are mad. Let them have their tantrums, and their fits. We won, we are world champions, and they are not. Nuff said... |
Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
the viking fans need to worry less about the "dirty hits" on their grandad #4 and worry more about ball security....that is what lost that game for them..but who cares..WE ARE SUPERBOWL CHAMPS

Edwards needs attention. Today on NFL Live on ESPN it was reported that Edwards was complaining about Goodell and was curt about it calling the commissioner a pen pusher that makes too much money.

Re: Article: Ray Edwards says he would have sought revenge for Farve
haha. i told all my friends after this game about how dirty we were and was LAUGHING about it. i dont care. i played defense on soccer my whole life, and i was dirty as hell! so, of course, i loved that kind of play from our team.
edwards is full caca. how could he not have been aware, at least, at halftime about what we were doing to favre? that nasty as play by mccray (where the play was no where near favre and WAAAAAAY late) came in the 1st half. surely, that would've been mentioned! |
