A little unfinished business...

The season is over, and I feel compelled to eat my crow like a man, so, without further adieu, here goes.

Sean Payton-- I think I mistook desire to win for arrogance. For that, I apologize. Coach is an offensive genius, and I tip my hat to him. I don't know if the Saints could have gone all the way with anyone else. He didn't let me down on the gambling issue, but I love the way it turned-out.

Drew Brees-- I never doubted his talent, didn't care for the rah-rah business...but it grew on me a little. He won a bunch of big games this year against teams with winning records. He came out a winner in the biggest game of his life. Drew...welcome to elite status.

Jeremy Shockey-- I admit that Shockey was a part of this championship and deserves credit for that. He played hurt and I admire that in any player. I was against the trade, but he was a part of the team that fulfilled a lifelong dream, so I have to admit that the trade was most definitely worth it.

So...there it is. Who Dat!

I can say the same thing in regards to Shockey never liked him before, was against the trade but he just grew on me, more and more as the season progressed. When he made his limping touchdown I was sold completely, a play like that is worth what we gave for him.

Way to man-up, LB. Sometimes, its good to be wrong, and I'm glad you finally, after all these years, get to celebrate what I know you thought you would never live to see. I know deep down, you thought "we're cursed," and really could not possibly visualize us even going to the SB. I have many friends in this boat, and probably can include myself.

Payton, I knew was something special, and at least a change from all defense/no offense teams we're used to.

I wondered how Brees would do on the big stage, but I like the rah-rah!

And I too was against Shockey coming here, but I knew I was wrong about him as soon as I saw him working at Training Camp.

WAAAAAAAAAHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

good job, LB.

SP is not done yet, too!

Brees is an intense guy. I don't think we will see him in a broadcast booth after football.

I think we'll see him in Congress.

Re: A little unfinished business...

No worries LB. We all had our moments this season. I went nutz after the Tampa loss. I feel even more of an idiot now. I was SO WRONG. If I remember correctly, I said quote: "NO team that loses to the Bucs at home, has any chance of winning the superbowl." Boy was I wrong, in every sense of the word.

I just want everyone to know, that I have officially drank the Kool Aid. All of it. Every drop. So much, that I'm waiting for the Kool Aid guy to bust through my wall, screaming "OH YEAH!!!". I will never doubt this team again.... NEVER.

Sometimes being wrong tastes pretty damn sweet. I think we all have had our share of being wrong about a certain player or coach concerning the Saints. I'll be honest about who I was wrong about, too.....Jabari Greer. I was afraid that we may have another Jason David on our hands with him. An AFC corner cast-off that only had one decent season in his young career and we give him a decent contract. For some reason I just saw him getting torched by NFC receivers. Was I way off base or what? I hated that he was injured for half of the season, but the beautiful part about it is that you realized how much the Saints secondary tailed off when he wasn't in the line-up. When he came back, he didn't miss a beat. Opponents bring their best at him and he just shuts the down. Amazing pick up. I'll take my crow with a side of humility.

Re: A little unfinished business...

I was completely wrong on Darren Sharper. I thought Loomis was going for another stop gap player that was good in his prime but once he became a Saint would do nothing for the team like Eric Allen or TeBucky Jones. I was all for wanting the safety that Dallas signed, the same one that might still be looking for the ball in Minny. I was just tired of seeing the team depend of second rate free agents and calling it a day like they had really done something to fix a problem.

Boy I was dead wrong, I don't know how many times since the Superbowl I've toasted to him. Good thing I'm not the GM

What I was wrong is about how much attitude and what he means to our offense. He could be on the field and not make a catch but just being out there seemed to put a spark in everyone around him.

Re: A little unfinished business...

Much better wrong in these cases than right!!

I too was a little down after the TB game (in fact I had to go to a dinner with TB fans right after - eww!!)

I remember Shockey from U of M - Always intense. I think a lot the problems he had in NY were meida driven/created. The NYC media could make Brees look bad if they wanted to.

Re: A little unfinished business...

I was skeptical on Shockey, especially after he spent most of last year hurt. I thought Sharper was past his prime too. I ate my words after week two on both of them.

Re: A little unfinished business...

Am I the only person here that rejoiced when we got Shockey? Even at half-speed teams have to account for him. I loved it then and I love it now.

However, I thought we should wash our hands of Henderson. I liked him, and I wanted to see the 'local' guy do good, but I was tired of watching him drop balls and was ready to cut bait. He really upped his game and has become a legitimate WR in the NFL.

Yep I got Shockey wrong. Thought he would be another who just came for the money. Thought SP was crazy sometimes and really wondered if he could execute the master plan. As for Brees - I was always happy he came to the Saints

Re: A little unfinished business...

When the Saints got Drew Brees, I kind of felt like it was a good step in the right direction. Honestly, I knew he was a decent QB, but never really expected him to be great. As that 2006 season progressed, I was totally blown away by Brees. Watching him do his work is just a thing of beauty.

As for Shockey, I was a big fan of him when he first entered the NFL, but that cooled off big time. When the Saints got him I wasn't too sure if it was a good move or not. For some reason it seems like he got butt hole guy labeled on him. After watching him and understanding him he is the ultimate team player and a real asset to the Saints.

You weren't alone on Shockey. I wanted him, too. We hadn't had a legitimate threat at TE in years. I loved the idea of trading for him. I'm kind of with you on Henderson. He had teflon hands up until the '08 season. He got much better at catching the ball, but I wanted to see if he could do it for two years in a row. Kind of a "too good to be true" feeling that I had with him. He proved me wrong once again. He's become not only a deep threat, but a solid all-around threat.

I was a huge supporter of getting Shockey back when the trade was in the works so when it went down I had a feeling we had landed something special just didn't know he would mean this much to the team

I thought we were going to play the Packers in the NFCG and thought it couuld go either way... I was wrong. :) Other than that, I try to remain optimistic about everyone.

Good stuff buddy. Ive always believed this was our year from the start of the season. I knew when we signed GW it was a done deal. Our D was the only set back we had in 2007 & 2008.
