Jazz funeral to bury the Aints nickname
1 Attachment(s)
Younger fans may find it hard to believe that, in the pre-Super Bowl championship era, the Saints were so bad that fans wore paper bags over their heads at games and competed to sail paper airplanes onto the field. Late local sportscaster Buddy Diliberto is credited with coming up with the paper bag masks during a long-ago 1-15 season.
The Saints are the Aints no more. To make it semi-official, trombonist Glen David Andrews and the Baby Boyz Brass Band will lead an Aints jazz funeral through Treme and Faubourg Marigny on Saturday, Feb. 20, starting at 5 p.m. Fans are encouraged to bring their old Aints paper bags and place them in a coffin. After a brief ceremony, the second-line funeral procession launches from d.b.a. (618 Frenchmen Street), winds into Treme, then circles back to d.b.a. I would love to see that. I'm actually going to be in Baton Rouge on Saturday. Bringing a bunch of Boy Scouts down there to see the Capital and the USS Kidd. I will not however be able to attend this, so there better be a video posted the next morning. That is going to be something to see.

Good riddance.
Traitors is all they were. If you wore a bag, you really weren't a fan. |
Re: Jazz funeral to bury the Aints nickname
My dad has been a fan since the franchise was born. He wore a bag. That doesn't make him less of a fan. At least he was there every Sunday for the games, and he cheered on the team, win or lose. He actually tried out for the team back in the day, and he had season tickets for a few years, until he got married.

Some of those bagheads were LONG LOOONNNGGG Time Season Ticket holders and some of those bag heads never stopped paying for their season tickets..
Even buddy d sported a bag.. The Bag heads got a lot of gripe and were made famous because other fan-bases used it to give us grief but little do they know those bag heads were some of the most passionate Saints fans out there, disappointed for ages? yes.. but i wouldn't question their devotion, especially if their the one's keeping the Saints in the city for decades by being the one's providing Benson and prior owners with their wallets every season. I always love to throw that in the Falcons fans, Buc's fans, Carolina fans faces when they bring up bag heads.. if you fold under that and not give them the real deal then your letting them win the argument.. One day i might create a wiki on Saints bagheads so people can have a reference to throw at the ignorant. |

Hopefully it never happens agains, but just be prepared for the return if they ever do fall upon hard times again...and don't think it can't happen again. As much as people would like to bury those negative memories, you can't. |
